Firm Focus and History

The focus of my law firm is consumer bankruptcy. Before opening my own firm, I worked as a bankruptcy attorney at another law firm. Since going out on my own, I have really enjoyed the ability to work directly with my clients and lead them through every step of the bankruptcy process.

Previous Employment Summary

I interned at several Utah law firms and the Utah Fourth District Court before joining a Northern Utah Law Office as a Bankruptcy Associate.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I believe the more a client can learn about the bankruptcy process, the less overwhelming the whole process will be when they are working with their bankruptcy attorney.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I am not willing to review documents prepared by clients. When I take on a new bankruptcy client, I see them through the whole bankruptcy process from start to finish.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I do not feel that bankruptcy is an area of the law clients should tackle without legal representation.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

I decided to be a lawyer to help people to use the legal system to resolve problems that they either do not know how to solve themselves or that they do not have the time to efficiently solve on their own. With Bankruptcies, I have found that an attorney can help clients proceed through their bankruptcy quickly and move on with their life having a fresh start financially.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

I graduated from BYU Law School where I was an Editor for the Journal of Public Law and was Vice President of the Natural Resources Law Society. I also graduated from BYU College of Engineering with a degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering and was a research assistant at the Environmental Modeling Research Lab.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

Out of law school, my primary focus was real estate law. Because of the economy, the first firm I worked for shifted me to bankruptcy law. I really enjoyed the work and have never left it.

What do you like best about your career?

The thing I like best about my career is being able to help people out of difficult situations.

Tell us about your law firm:

I am a solo practitioner so all of my clients deal directly with me.

What are your strengths and style?

I always meet with client and personally return their phone calls. I spend the time to learn what the client's needs are and find a solution they feel comfortable with.

Personal Interests:

My personal interests revolve around my family and the outdoors. We enjoy spending time hiking, camping and four-wheeling all around Utah together.

In Chapter 13 cases, there is a court filing fee of $274, a required credit counseling class that costs around $50 and my attorney fees starting at $2,750.

Hourly Rates

When I do work on an hourly basis, my rate is $180.

Typical Retainer

I determine my retainer on a case-by-case basis but will typically not start work on a case until at least $300 is paid.

Understanding Fees

Nolo's Licensing Check

Attorneys have passed a licensing check. Nolo has confirmed that every member attorney has a valid license and is in good standing with the applicable bar associations upon joining the directory.

Directory lawyers are required to notify Nolo immediately if they become the subject of any disciplinary action by any bar association.
