Criminal Defense
We prefer to defend DUI and Criminal cases that present a challenge. I am in court very frequently, and enjoy trial work.
GA, Jun 1989
Bar Number: 670712
United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit; United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia; Supreme Court of Georgia; Court of Appeals of Georgia; and all courts of record in the entire State of Georgia.
State Bar of Georgia; Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys; MENSA, the High IQ Society.
I take a proactive approach to my continuing legal training by selecting seminars and workshops that enrich my skills as a trial lawyer. I usually have about double the number of CLE credit hours than is required by the State Bar.
I have written hundred of motions and briefs on behalf of my clients, and so there is little time to write esoteric and theoretical articles that do little to get results for my clients.
1. Speer v. Miller, 15 F.3d 1007; sued the State of Georgia to stop the enforcement of a state law that infringed on the First Amendment right of freedom of speech and won. This case set a ground-breaking precedent in Federal First Amendment law, and has been cited in numerous federal cases since.
2. Griffiths v. Schafer, 223 Ga.App. 560; was co-counsel in this interesting case involving a horrible dog attack on a vet employee. Although our relief was denied, we got a lengthy dissent in our favor, written by Georgia Court of Appeals Chief Judge Beasley.

My team of lawyers and I devote our time and effort to representing clients who are faced with severe penalties in criminal and civil courts across Georgia. The Magic Lawyer® and my staff have a positive and enthusiastic attitude in the representation of our clients, and always seek a positive outcome, no matter how hopeless or tough a case may seem. I began practicing law in 1989, and have been a Georgia resident all my life.
I was a professional sales representative for over five years before becoming a trial lawyer. I have also been, and still am, a part-time magician, performing for fun and charity.

I think that it is great when clients educates themselves about the law as it applies to their case, so long as they refrain from debating and arguing with me as their trial lawyer. If the client disagrees with me about the law and their case, then they need to take first seat at the trial table and just let me observe; heck, I might learn something!
I have no problem reviewing documents for clients; this is what lawyers are supposed to do.
I usually stay away from this, because it generally creates problems later in the courtroom. Judges generally view this as legal representation, and expect me to be in court with the client that I "coached."
It is just something that is in my blood. I can't explain why, but I eat, breathe, and sleep law (and magic).
My experience as a trial attorney for 20 years, and being in courtrooms most of the time, gives me a sharp mindset for what clients needs to solve their legal problems. Being a magician (having been trained by the best magicians in the world), helps me to be a good presenter and effective "on my feet" in any situation.
Please read The Magic Lawyer® booklet on my website.
Criminal defense is the essence of being a trial lawyer. The defendants in a criminal (or DUI) case generally has only one friend in court . . . her lawyer.
Helping people and showing them that their situation is not hopeless.
Although I am a sole practitioner, I do network with other good attorneys around metro Atlanta when needed.
My staff is top-notch: Kimberley Baggett is my Senior Legal Assistant, and she has been with me for over four years. Prior to that, Kimberely worked for the State Court of Cobb County Clerk's Office (Criminal Division) for five years. That's where I met Kimberley, and she has been my friend ever since.
Daniel Barraclough has been with us for a few months and is enrolled in college at night. He handles our investigative work and court filings. He thinks he might want to become a lawyer, but he hasn't decided yet. There is still hope for him... Maybe he will become a magician instead!
Because I came from a working middle-class family in Atlanta, I have a good feel for what most of my clients are going through when they come to our office for help. I channel my energy into the client's case and am relentless in my efforts to obtain a great result for them. Enthusiasm, high energy, and perseverance are my strengths.
Kimberley Baggett, Senior Legal Assistant.

Not yet, but we are working on Spanish.
We generally charge a flat fee in most cases, with additional fees if the case actually needs to go to trial. We'll take 10% off of our fee if the client mentions that they came from Nolo.
$250 per hour, but only in complex civil cases.
We offer a free consultation to assess the client's needs and case strategy, and to (1) explain what we can do for the client; and (2) how much it will costs to handle the matter.
If so, what is it? Each case is different.
Attorneys have passed a licensing check. Nolo has confirmed that every member attorney has a valid license and is in good standing with the applicable bar associations upon joining the directory.
Directory lawyers are required to notify Nolo immediately if they become the subject of any disciplinary action by any bar association.
