I started my firm after graduation from law school. I wanted to focus on small to mid-sized business owners and individual estate planning. It was my belief that larger firms had become unresponsive to the needs of small and medium-sized business along with individuals.
My firm focuses on tax issues, be they domestic or international. I cover all areas of tax planning.
Before I became a lawyer I was a bond broker. This is where I learned about economics and negotiation. I routinely engaged in transactions of over $1 million.
I write an economics column for the Huffington Post which has a daily readership of 300,000. I am a commentator on the radio show Econ 101 on KTLK in Los Angeles. My economic and market analysis has been cited by the Wall Street Journal.
It's a good idea for clients to become familiar with the general outlines of the law. In fact, I view this as part of my job. But it's also important for clients to remember that they are not experts.
Yes, for a fee.
No.
First, I come from a family of lawyers, so you could say it's in my blood. But, I really enjoy the role of advisor for my clients, which I take very seriously. Most importantly, I enjoy providing a much needed service in a manner that "de-lawyers" the experience for clients.
My experience as a broker taught me the art of negotiation and how to deal with complicated financial situations. It also taught me how to really listen to what a client is saying, and what he or she means.
Tax law chose me. When I was in law school I took partnership, estate planning and corporate tax courses in my third year and again when I got my masters. Simply put, these areas of law make sense to me, largely because of my financial background.
I like planning for contingencies - it's something I'm very good at. I also like working with people to lower their tax bill!
As a solo practitioner, all of my clients deal directly with me - I don't farm any work out to an associate or paralegal. In addition, I answer all calls and emails by the end of the day. Your time is just as important as mine.
I really enjoy listening to people and helping them plan for one of the most difficult decisions of their lives. I'm also very good at explaining the law to people in a language they can understand.
Music, history, family, and exercise.
