Firm Focus and History

I've been a sole practitioner since 1976, and the majority of my practice is in the area of wills, trusts and estate planning. I also settle estates and administer trusts after death.

Previous Employment Summary

I worked for the U.S. Department of Justice, and I was an attorney for a financial services company before I opened my own office.

Activities and Awards

In my private mediation practice, I help individuals and attorneys settle civil cases including estate planning and business matters. As a trained mediator, I assist the local judges in pre-trial settlement conferences.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I'm all in favor of clients educating themselves on legal issues. If they haven't, I work very hard to explain the issues involving estate planning as clearly as possible and respond to all questions.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

Yes, in fact I've done this on a number of occasions.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

Yes, but this doesn't come up too often in the area of estate planning.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

I felt strongly that the law was a profession which would put me in the position to help clients solve issues that were important in their lives. I get a lot of satisfaction from helping people who decide to come see me about estate planning and related issues.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

My business background and experience as a mediator and a litigator.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

Before going out into private practice, I worked for a financial services company in which many of the employees were financial planners. They needed an attorney who could help with estate planning, so I pursued this area of law as my primary specialty. I continued in estate planning, because I enjoyed helping clients with these issues.

What do you like best about your career?

Many people do not enjoy having to address issues regarding estate planning, and I have been successful in putting clients at ease and helping them to reach their goals. Litigating estate planning cases can sometimes be difficult, but I work very hard to resolve these matters to the satisfaction of my clients.

Tell us about your law firm:

I am a sole practitioner. Although I have an experienced staff, all of my clients deal directly with me. We pride ourselves in making clients comfortable and working efficiently for them.

What are your strengths and style?

My clients tell me that I am a very good listener, and I take enough time to clarify difficult estate planning issues for them. I think that my training as a mediator and litigator adds to my expertise.

I know that clients want a lawyer who is accessible. Our office is informal and very friendly. I take as much time as necessary to learn my clients' needs and to address them.

Personal Interests:

Tennis and weekends in the mountains.
