Business Law
I am happy to represent individuals, home-owner's associations, start-ups, small companies, and companies that have occasional legal needs and issues but do not require a full-time lawyer.
My preference is working with clients who value establishing a relationship with their attorney. I like to be involved early in a project to help my clients avoid many of the costly mistakes that can lead to expensive litigation.

Each year attorneys are required to fulfill hours of continuing education. I attend a variety of legal education seminars on current legal issues related to the construction industry, real estate, and Alternative Dispute Resolution.
Generally, drafting, and negotiation of contracts, although I have been involved in complex real estate transactions. Recently I have been working with a condo owner's association cleaning up a problem with title documents.

The primary focus of my practice is construction related contracts. I have extensive experience in construction contract dispute analysis and resolution. I have worked for owners and contractors.
I started practicing law in 2008. I had been working with an expert construction consulting firm for many years and found many lawyers that we were working for didn't fully understand or appreciate many of the complexities involved in construction cases. I completed law school at night while continuing to work in construction consulting.

I am pleased when clients are interested in educating themselves about the law. The better a clients understanding of the law, the more likely my recommendations will make complete sense. However, I am aware that the extreme volume of legal material on any given subject available today makes the education process somewhat overwhelming.
I am willing to review documents prepared by clients and advise.
Generally, I am happy to provide a little advice to those representing themselves. However, coaching someone throughout an entire legal process can quickly become more expensive for the client than simply allowing me to handle the case.
I have always appreciated the answer to this type of question from the Orson Wells movie "Citizen Kane." Kane thought it would be "fun to run a newspaper." In my case, I came to realize that I am very good with contracts. It seemed like a natural next step to move from consultant to counsel.
Many years of working in the construction trades has lead to a unique understanding of construction contracts and disputes.
There has always been something about contracts that appeal to me in the same way that puzzles appeal to others. There is a beauty in drafting an agreement that tries to clearly state the expectations of both parties and tries to anticipate how to resolve all possible problems that might arise prior to the project even getting started. When everyone's expectations are very clearly expressed prior to the start, there is a significant reduction in the likelihood of later disputes.
I enjoy helping my clients through the entire process of getting a project successfully to completion with little to no disputes. I enjoy being able to come up with creative solutions to unique problems.
My firm is small—just me—so you really get my personal attention on every aspect of a project. I share an office with a construction consulting firm that is one of the best in the world and they are always available to me.
I am a people person. I am easy to get along with and a good communicator. I care about solving my clients' problems in the most effective, cost efficient manner possible, even if it might mean less billable work for me.
I spent several years as a professional musician and still enjoying playing for fun when I have some free time.
