One of the most challenging transactions I've worked on was a $1.3 billion outsourcing of energy services. The deal involved the purchase of natural gas and electricity, the operation and maintenance of energy infrastructure (boilers, chillers, etc.), and the design and installation of energy saving projects.

My practice focuses on two groups of clients - small businesses and nonprofit organizations. In serving small businesses, I draw from my in-house experience, which was primarily in commercial transactions. In serving nonprofit organizations, I am building on ten years experience doing pro bono work with the Community Development Law Center, an organization in Indianapolis that provides legal services to nonprofit organizations that work with low income communities.
I started my own law practice in Fishers, Indiana in 2008 after I elected early retirement from a job as in-house counsel for a major pharmaceutical company. I chose Fishers as the location for my practice because it is a strong, vibrant, growing community of families, businesses and other organizations.
I was in-house counsel at Eli Lilly and Company for more than fourteen years, practicing in the environmental group, the securities group, and the commercial transactions group. As a commercial lawyer I worked on a wide spectrum of transactions, including strategic sourcing initiatives, outsourcing transactions, joint ventures, and procurement contracts for goods and services ranging from advertising and market research, to laboratory research, to construction, to professional and consulting services. While at Lilly, I organized the Company's first pro bono legal program to provide legal services to low income individuals and to nonprofit organizations that work with low income communities.
For thirteen years before I became a lawyer, I worked for the same company as a chemical engineer and as a department head of biochemical engineering.
Contract attorney for the Community Development Law Center, Indianapolis
Adjunct Professor for the Nonprofit Externship program at the Indiana University School of Law - Indianapolis

I love to help clients understand the legal issues that affect their businesses and organizations.
I am willing to review documents such as contracts, articles of incorporation, and bylaws that have been prepared by my clients. In some cases, I can simply make revisions to the client's documents. In others, I use the information in the client's documents to prepare new documents myself.
I do not advise clients who want to represent themselves in court. I sometimes advise clients who want to represent themselves in contract negotiations.
Although I enjoyed my previous career as an engineer, I was looking for a way to use my talents in a profession that gives me closer contact with the people whom I ultimately serve - my clients.
My experiences as an engineer and as a lawyer within a company give me a better understanding of the issues my clients face everyday in the operation of their businesses and nonprofit organizations.
I enjoy the variety of legal issues, businesses, and organizations that I encounter in my practice areas.
I've enjoyed every stage of my career, but the latest is the best. I love the challenge of starting my own practice as well as the independence it affords me. I also appreciate the deep sense of satisfaction I receive from working with law students in a nonprofit externship program.
I am a solo practitioner, and all my clients deal directly with me. I answer my own phone, pick up my own voice mail messages, and answer my own email messages.
I enjoy getting to know my clients and their businesses and organizations so I can give solid, practical, useful legal advice. Problem-solving is a common thread that runs throughout my career, and I enjoy helping my clients avoid the problems they avoid and solve the problems they can't.
I'm an avid backpacker. Two of my favorite places to backpack are the Hoosier National Forest and the Knobstone Trail, both in southern Indiana.
I also enjoy gardening, and I particularly enjoy growing flowers and other plants that are native to Indiana.

Fixed fees are available for some, but not all, types of services. An estimate of the total fee likely to be charged for your particular case is available without obligation. If you want a fixed fee and it is available for your particular case, the exact amount will be stated in a written agreement before the work begins.
My standard hourly rate is $295. Of course, the total fee charged will depend not only on the agreed hourly rate, but also on the number of hours worked on your case. An estimate of the total fee likely to be charged for your particular case is available without obligation.
I generally offer a free 30 to 45 minute initial consultation so you and I can decide if we want to work together.
It depends. If I will be working by the hour, I usually ask for advance payment of at least a portion of the total estimated fees. The advance payment is held in a trust account until the fee is earned.
