Many people today are facing foreclosure because of medical problems or job loss, which had left them overburdened by debt. Bankruptcy is an available option to remove most debts (Chapter 7) or to work out a payment plan you can manage (Chapter 13). If you have a second mortgage on your home, but the current value of your home has declined so much that it is below the value of your first mortgage, it may be possible to "strip off" the second mortgage in a Chapter 13 bankruptcy. This means the second mortgage would become an unsecured creditor and would receive cents on the dollar like your other unsecured creditors.

My practice is currently focused primarily on bankruptcy. In these troubled times, there is a great need for assistance in deciding whether bankruptcy is the right option, and if so, for assistance in the actual filing and hearing aspects of the bankruptcy process. I offer a free consultation and make myself available to my clients to answer all their questions.
On the estate planning side, I help people develop an estate plan appropriate for their situation. Then I draft the relevant documents, such as wills, trusts, powers of attorney, living wills and health care surrogate documents. Finally, in the event of death, I assist in the probate of an estate.
My firm was established in 2004. After years of working for other people, I am thrilled to have my own business. I started my firm at a Sarasota location, then after two years I was able to move to a new office complex on route 41 in Osprey. I thought this would be very accessible for the scores of people from North Port, Venice and Nokomis who travel past on 41 each day. Now, I maintain both offices for the convenience of my clients throughout Sarasota County.
I practiced law in New York and New Jersey for 12 years before moving to Florida. I worked for large corporations (Kraft Foods, Smith Barney and Primerica, now Citigroup). I also was an associate in the tax department of a medium-sized law firm.
I have represented a number of clients pro bono through Legal Aid of Manasota. These cases have been in the areas of foreclosure assistance and divorce.
We live in such a complex world, that the more informed we are the better choices we can make. I am all for client education, and there is a wealth of information on the internet. I caution my clients to choose reliable sources of information because not everything on the internet is accurate.
I am willing to read client documents to better understand their wishes and desires. However, I usually recommend they utilize professionally drafted legal documents.
In the right situation, clients are more than able to represent themselves. For example, I coach clients on the process of obtaining a loan modification from their bank. However, bankruptcy is such a complex minefield that I would never recommend anyone take it on without being represented by a qualified attorney.
At the time, I was young and idealistic and ready to save the world. As time went on I realized that I could help people, just on a smaller scale.
My undergraduate education stressed writing skills (journalism major) and practical business skills (business minor). I think both sides are valuable to a lawyer. The academics at my law school (Cardozo) are first rate with many outstanding professors. In addition, the life experience of working in several different settings and different areas of the law has given me a pretty well-rounded view of potential legal issues.
I think the legal areas I practice in are well-suited for my personal strengths - I am organized, detail-oriented and committed to helping my clients.
I like feeling that I can help solve a problem in someone's life. I also like the independence and control of having my own practice.
I am a solo practitioner, so all of my clients work directly with me. They receive customized, personal attention to their file.
My style is open and informal. I am often in the position of delivering bad news. In that regard, I am honest to a fault; I will tell you the straight story about your situation or your proposed plan of action even if it is not what you really want to hear. I value the trust my clients place in me and I expect it to go both ways. I insist on openness and honesty from the clients I work with.
I like reading, gardening, bike riding, badminton, and movies.

I charge $1,500 for Chapter 7 bankruptcies and $3,000 for Chapter 13. This does not include the court filing fees ($299 and $274 respectively), credit report, or the legally required credit counseling and financial management course.
My hourly rate is $200 per hour, although it is usually not applicable.
I offer a free consultation of 15 to 30 minutes.
I do not. It all depends on the type of work I'll be doing. Many matters, such as bankruptcy, are priced on a flat fee basis.
Attorneys have passed a licensing check. Nolo has confirmed that every member attorney has a valid license and is in good standing with the applicable bar associations upon joining the directory.
Directory lawyers are required to notify Nolo immediately if they become the subject of any disciplinary action by any bar association.
