Firm Focus and History

I primarily handle Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcies for individuals, but also represent clients in criminal and traffic matters. My partner, Irene Gasparis focuses on family law matters, including divorces, child support, child custody and paternity cases. We also represent clients in personal injury cases, real estate matters and business matters.

Irene Gasparis opened her office in Crown Point in 1993 and I began clerking for her in 1995. After passing the bar, I was her associate until June 2000, when we became partners and opened our second office in Valparaiso.

Previous Employment Summary

While in law school, I worked for Attorney Gus Galanos in Merrillville, Indiana.

Activities and Awards

I have done and continue to do pro bono work for the Indiana Pro Bono Committee.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

It's ok for clients to educate themselves on legal issues and to do research at a library or on the internet, but this should only be used for general information. If you need help on a specific issue, an attorney should be consulted.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I am willing to review documents prepared by my clients.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I prefer not to "coach" clients who want to represent themselves.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

Everyone I knew growing up went to the same lawyer for everything - Gus Galanos - he helped my family and countless others. I looked up to him and respected him, and wanted to help people the way he helped my family.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

I was born, raised and live in the region. My father was union steelworker and my mother was a teacher. I have personal experience of how an unforeseen illness or lay-off can cause a family financial stress and hardship. I can personally relate to the many families who are going through similar situations during these tough economic times.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

I enjoy helping individuals get a fresh start.

What do you like best about your career?

Helping people get a fresh start.

Tell us about your law firm:

We have a small office including Irene Gasparis (my partner), our secretary Michelle, and myself. Michelle is extremely helpful and friendly. We can be reached via telephone or email, and can usually respond to any questions very quickly.

What are your strengths and style?

Our office and staff members are very friendly and we have a relaxed, but still professional, style. Going to see a lawyer or going to court can be very stressful for clients, but after they have a chance to meet with us, they feel relief and are very glad they came to us.

Personal Interests:

Chicago Cubs, Notre Dame Football, and traveling.

Nolo's Licensing Check

Attorneys have passed a licensing check. Nolo has confirmed that every member attorney has a valid license and is in good standing with the applicable bar associations upon joining the directory.

Directory lawyers are required to notify Nolo immediately if they become the subject of any disciplinary action by any bar association.
