Colorado and Maryland
In 2007, I moved from Maryland to Colorado, and in 2008, opened The Law Office of Julie D. Myers, LLC in Woodland Park, Colorado. In my thirteen years as an attorney, and after having served two years as a judicial law clerk, I have worked exclusively as either a sole practitioner or an attorney in a small firm. I like to give clients the personal service they deserve. I concentrate exclusively in the areas of estate planning and family law/divorce.
The Law Office of Julie D. Myers, LLC focuses on helping families in good times and bad, from beginning to end, by offering family law/divorce and estate planning services. Clients can expect to receive personal attention from an attorney who is responsive to their needs.
Upon graduation from law school, I was appointed to serve as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Lenore R. Gelfman in the Circuit Court for Howard County, Maryland from 1996 to 1998. After that, I engaged in a solo general law practice for five years before joining the law firm of Willis & Henderson, P.A., located near Baltimore, Maryland, where I practiced in various areas of civil law and litigation, including estate planning and family law.
I have served as an officer and/or member in a number of philanthropic and social organizations, including:
• President of the Rotary Club of Ellicott City (Sunrise), Maryland;
• President of Kappa Kappa Gamma, Howard County, Maryland Alumnae Association;
• Member, Colorado Bar Association (Estate Planning, Family Law & Solo/Small Firm Practice Sections);
• Member, El Paso County Bar Association;
• Member, American Bar Association;
• Member, Maryland State Bar Association; Member, Colorado Springs Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumnae Association;
• Member, Christian Legal Society, Colorado Springs Chapter.
I am a great advocate of education and believe that an educated client is an empowered client. When clients have a good grasp of the legal issues involved in their case, they are better able to make reasonable decisions. However, a few days or weeks of self-study cannot replace the three-year post-graduate law school education and the years of experience and expertise that an attorney can provide. I do not recommend that clients draft their own documents or use form-based documents. Often times, form documents are not reliable, are not state-specific, do not conform to a client's individual needs and would not withstand scrutiny in court. For these reasons, I always recommend consultation with a competent attorney.
I am glad to review client documents.
In some situations I am willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves.
I wanted to be a professional and liked the scholarly pursuit of the law.
The fact that I am a wife and mother makes me a better lawyer and more sympathetic to the problems and worries that face other families these days.
I chose family law and estate planning because I want to forge life-long personal relationships with my clients, from new marriages and children, to helping through difficult break-ups and planning for the future. I want my clients to have an advocate and counselor whom they can call on, no matter what the situation. I like working directly with clients to help them solve their problems or reach their goals.
I get tremendous satisfaction in providing caring, competent service for those who need it.
I am a solo practitioner, so all of my clients deal directly with me.
I am a great listener and communicate well with my clients, always keeping them apprised of the status of their cases. I am meticulous in my work, very organized and always seek to stay current on the law in my primary practice areas. My goal is to earn the trust of every client who enters my office.
I am an active member of Mountain View United Methodist Church in Woodland Park, Colorado, a volunteer troop leader for Girl Scouts of Colorado, a volunteer educator for Junior Achievement and a competitive tennis player. I enjoy reading, crafting, movies, and the beautiful Pikes Peak Region. I reside with my husband and two daughters in Teller County, Colorado.
