I attend continuing legal education classes in the areas of family law, estate planning, and estate administration, always exceeding the required amount of continuing education hours. In Colorado, forty-five (45) hours are required per three-year period; I have completed more than 70 hours in the past year.

I am currently working on an article entitled, "The Christian Lawyer Paradox," for publication in April 2009.

Some of the cases I have handled recently include a child custody case involving dependency and neglect issues, a child support enforcement case, a divorce case, an estate planning case involving the use of a by-pass trust, drafting of simple wills and an estate planning case involving the drafting of a revocable living trust.

Colorado and Maryland

In 2007, I moved from Maryland to Colorado, and in 2008, opened The Law Office of Julie D. Myers, LLC in Woodland Park, Colorado. In my thirteen years as an attorney, and after having served two years as a judicial law clerk, I have worked exclusively as either a sole practitioner or an attorney in a small firm. I like to give clients the personal service they deserve. I concentrate exclusively in the areas of estate planning and family law/divorce.

The Law Office of Julie D. Myers, LLC focuses on helping families in good times and bad, from beginning to end, by offering family law/divorce and estate planning services. Clients can expect to receive personal attention from an attorney who is responsive to their needs.

Upon graduation from law school, I was appointed to serve as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Lenore R. Gelfman in the Circuit Court for Howard County, Maryland from 1996 to 1998. After that, I engaged in a solo general law practice for five years before joining the law firm of Willis & Henderson, P.A., located near Baltimore, Maryland, where I practiced in various areas of civil law and litigation, including estate planning and family law.

I charge a flat fee for most estate planning services; for Nolo Document Review participants, services are charged at an hourly rate; family law and divorce cases are charged at an hourly rate.

It varies, depending on complexity of case, but typically, a retainer of one-half of the flat fee is required in estate planning cases, and a retainer of $3,000 to $7,500 is required in divorce/family law cases.
