Preferred New Clients

I prefer to work with clients in the start of their divorce. Marriage represents the toughest commitment anyone makes. Sometimes, divorce represents the best and most healthy next step; I understand why couples divorce. Call if you feel certain divorce is the best next step especially if you experience abuse or perceive any risk of harm to you or others in your family.

If you have doubts and the relationship remains free from abuse or any risk of harm, I encourage considering a program helping thousands of couples successfully overcome serious marital problems: The Retrouvailleā„¢ Program http://www.retrouvaille.org/ offers tools needed to rediscover a loving marriage relationship.

Firm Focus and History

Our firm's evolution began in the early 1970's and continues to the present. Barber Banaszynzki began as Gittleman, Charney & Michels, P.S.C. in the early 1970's. Oliver H. Barber, Jr. joined the firm in 1975 and became partner in 1976. The firm handles everything from adoptions to wills.

The other attorneys at Barber Banaszynski and I have an excellent reputation for services that result in high-value legal counsel for our clients. Our practice areas encompass the full range of corporate legal services and personal legal services, but we also value our community.
We embrace community involvement and encourage our attorneys to devote time and energy to our community. Our dedication to the interests of our clients, our people, and our communities represents a core value at our firm.
We strive to address the needs and expectations of our clients, our people, and our communities in an efficient and effective manner. We look forward to your call.
Our number is (502) 585-2100 and our offices sit atop 100 North Sixth Street next to Muhammad Ali Center and face the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts along the waterfront business district of Louisville, Kentucky.

Previous Employment Summary

Prior to Barber Banaszynzki, I worked with clients in a variety of industries including agriculture, apparel & accessories, arrangement of transportation of freight and cargo, automotive, building products, construction, entertainment, industrial machinery, legal, mining, motion picture and video industries, office equipment, oil & gas, printing & publishing, sugar and confectionery products, surgical, medical, and dental instruments and supplies, textiles and tools & instruments.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I support education but the non-lawyer is well advised to retain a trained lawyer when faced with a legal matter.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

Not willing.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

Not willing.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

Civilization arises out of law and respect for the law.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

I come to the law with an awareness that it is more important for lawyers to facilitate good business practices than to justify their existence by making deals nearly impossible to conclude. I come to the law with an awareness that it is OK to let someone else take certain work if the work diminishes what you represent.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

I believe in marriage, but understand it represents the hardest thing one may sign up to do. I believe the old and the young need protection, and the more capable should protect them when possible.

What do you like best about your career?

I like being involved in the community, when an outcome feels right, learning new things, and time with my family. I like making a difference.

Tell us about your law firm:

I work with seven excellent attorneys and seven wonderful staff. We work as a team. Different members of the firm will get involved as appropriate to a client's case. The quality of our representation is critical, so we work hard to match skills with the needs a given matter.

What are your strengths and style?

We all work hard to represent our clients well. I work hard to keep the lines of communication open with clients.

Personal Interests:

My interests are family and community involvement, skiing, swimming, baking and bee keeping.
