Firm Focus and History

Our San Bernardino Family Law Firm focuses on the individual needs of our clients. Although specializing in aggressive and zealous representation, our representation is strictly determined by the client's wishes - either aggressive or conciliatory. Our attorneys readily remain available to clients to address any questions or concerns they may have. Each case is assigned to an attorney and a paralegal that are intimately acquainted with the case and desired outcome. The client is completely informed each step of the way so that a fully informed decision can be made. No other Family Law attorney in San Bernardino County offers more personal or aggressive legal representation, whether it involves divorce, child custody and visitation, spousal support, division of property, separation, domestic violence or restraining orders.

Our Family Law attorneys hold over a decade of experience serving clients in San Bernardino County. The Firm's founder left a mid-sized firm in order to provide a broader array of services to clients and to provide a higher level of personal service to each client. Having a smaller firm with a reasonable case load, we focus on clients with closer attention, develop a personal connection to each client and can provide more personalized representation.

Previous Employment Summary

Prior to the founding of The Law Office of Michael R. Young, APC, I practiced at a mid-sized firm located in the Inland Empire. It was a litigation firm in a very specialized field that demanded each attorney carry a high case load. The narrow area of practice required short-term relationships and the inability to offer clients a broader area of representation.

Activities and Awards

I had an externship with the Honorable Robert Alberts, U.S. District Court, as well as with the Office of the United States Trustee.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

When clients retain the Law Office of Michael R. Young, APC to represent them in their Family Law matter, clients are fully informed about the legal issues that immediately impact their case. While it is usually good that a client have a general understanding of the issues involved in his or her case, too much information might negatively impact a case. If a client continually second-guesses the strategy of the case, it can become more time-consuming to work through and may therefore cost a client more money.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

While the Law Office of Michael R. Young is a full-service law firm that fully represents clients through all stages of their case, from the pleading stage to court sessions, we do routinely request clients to prepare a declaration or summary of the issues and / or chronology of events that may relate to their case, including child custody and visitation options, property division, domestic violence incidents and restraining orders, all of which we thoroughly review. This preparation is helpful in the development of the case.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

The Law Office of Michael R. Young, APC is a full-service law firm and does not merely prepare documents, but will fully represent the client at all stages of their Family Law case. Therefore, our office does not coach clients who represent themselves.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

I chose to become an attorney to assist members of my community during difficult times and, hopefully, improve the quality of their lives. Personally, I am an aggressive individual who enjoys a vigorous debate; character traits which lend themselves well to the legal profession.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

Unlike other lawyers born with a silver spoon in their mouth, I came from a blue collar background and worked to put myself through college and law school. My work experience includes a variety of jobs in the areas of construction, manufacturing and retail sales. This experience has enriched me with a great degree of people skills and knowledge to draw from, enabling me to be sensitive to client needs and to provide exceptional legal representation.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

I thoroughly enjoy the challenges associated with Family Law because it involves a wide array of issues, from pre-nuptial agreements, to divorce, child custody, child support and visitation, division of property, separation and domestic violence. This area of law often involves court room argument on a daily basis which, in turn, provides me with a considerable amount of invigorating courtroom experience and close client contact.

What do you like best about your career?

As a Family Law attorney in San Bernardino County, I've been able to continually build upon my existing law experience and knowledge, and have provided clients in the community with exceptional representation. This has rewarded me with a great sense of pride and accomplishment, and helped me to become a recognized and respected leader in the community.

Being intimately familiar with each case, our paralegals are able to answer most questions or inquiries clients may have when the attorneys are in court.

The attorneys of our firm are aggressive litigators with extensive experience with the local courts. We present clients with realistic possible outcomes and are able to predict the best strategy for achieving a client's desired result. Adding to our strength is an exceptional staff, who are efficient and responsive to clients.
