Firm Focus and History

Our focus of the firm is to be an advocate for our clients. Insurance companies have a stable of attorneys and experts working on their side. We try to even the playing field. We have over 40 years of combined legal experience. We have worked with numerous experts from economists, doctors, accident re-constructionists, bio-mechanical experts, safety experts, vocational rehabilitation experts and so on.

The Otus Law Group was established in 1995. Since then, we have been successfully helping injured people. For more information, please visit our website.

Previous Employment Summary

After graduating from law school, I worked for an insurance defense firm for approximately two years. I eventually left to work for plaintiff's injury law firm. I left the insurance defense firm because I just did not enjoy working against injured people. Then in 1995, I founded my own practice.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I try to keep my clients abreast of the positives and negatives of their cases. I address the legal issues with them. I have no problem with them getting a second opinion or doing independent research on what we may have discussed.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I do not do "piece meal" work. I am essentially a trial lawyer. I handle all my cases on a contingency basis.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I do not coach people who want to represent themselves. As previously stated, I am a trial lawyer. I handle all my cases on a contingency basis.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

I wanted to become a lawyer so I can help people. Being a lawyer is a dynamic job. The insurance companies and their lawyers constantly try to take advantage of injured people. I make it a level playing field. Moreover, I believe we live in a safer place because of personal injury lawyers. If it was not for people like me, businesses would not be as careful to their employees or their customers.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

I have been a lawyer handling personal injury cases for 19 years. During this time, I feel like I have seen everything. I believe this is an advantage to my clients because I can anticipate what the insurance companies and their lawyers are going to do against the injured, and can take steps to protect the injured.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

Quite frankly, I enjoy fighting the insurance companies and their lawyers. It brings me great satisfaction when I win the case for my clients. Knowing that the insurance companies and their lawyers were trying to take advantage of the injured and I did not let them do so.

What do you like best about your career?

As previously stated, I like winning cases for my clients. It brings me great satisfaction.

Tell us about your law firm:

I do have a small staff that assists me on my cases. I have one other lawyer that works with me and two paralegals. Lastly, I have three other people in the office that help me run my law firm. I like to keep my office at this size because it allows me to deal with my clients directly.

What are your strengths and style?

I believe my strength is my people skills. I believe this helps me with judges, juries, clients, insurance companies, and their lawyers.

Personal Interests:

My personal interests are essentially doing things with my family. Everything from skiing to playing golf with my family.

Fixed-Price Services and Fees

My fees are the standard contingency fees of 33% for Pre-Litigation and 40% for Litigation cases.

Hourly Rates

I do not handle cases on an hourly basis.

Free Initial Consultation?

I offer a consultation. I do not put a time limit for the consultation. Some cases are more complicated than other cases, and therefore, it may require a longer consultation. That is not a problem for me.

Typical Retainer

As previously stated, I handle my cases on a contingency basis. It is 33% for Pre-Litigation cases and 40% for Litigation cases. I advance all costs. If there is no recovery, I do not receive any fees and I waive the costs advanced.

Understanding Fees

Nolo's Licensing Check

Attorneys have passed a licensing check. Nolo has confirmed that every member attorney has a valid license and is in good standing with the applicable bar associations upon joining the directory.

Directory lawyers are required to notify Nolo immediately if they become the subject of any disciplinary action by any bar association.
