Firm Focus and History

We work with emerging business enterprises in franchising, teaming agreements, joint venturing, partnerships dissolution, government contracting, business structuring and restructuring issues, employment issues, and commercial contract drafting, negotiation and litigation. We work with business owners, professionals and other individuals in succession planning, estate planning and asset protection (such as, revocable living trusts, irrevocable trusts, wills, trust modifications, and estate administration matters). We also work with businesses and individuals in tax controversies. The team approach is the model we use in providing legal services in all areas in which we practice.

After graduating from law school in 1989, I began a solo law practice primarily working with referrals from Certified Public Accountants who I had met while practicing as a CPA. The firm was incorporated in 2008.

Previous Employment Summary

I began my professional career with Price Waterhouse as an auditor. Before becoming a lawyer, I obtained extensive external and internal audit experience which helps tremendously when we are engaged to perform internal investigations, fraud investigations, and cost & pricing analysis in government contract engagements.

Activities and Awards

The Pro Bono College of the State Bar of Texas granted me membership for the year 2008 for making outstanding contributions to the delivery of legal services to low-income Texans. I am also a Member of the American Bar Association.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

We encourage clients to educate themselves on legal issues. In fact we think that one of our primary tasks is not only to vigorously represent our clients, but to educate our clients so that they understand how law connects to their over all goals, whether that goal is to build a business enterprise or preserve their family legacy.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

We believe clients should thoroughly understand how the law can help them to achieve their goals, but we do not think it is wise for clients to draft legal documents. It is our view that the law is not black letter law, or out of the box, but requires legal training and judgment. Law is too complex and the stakes are too high to ask clients to draft legal documents.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

Our firm's view is that we know the law and our clients know the facts and their goals, and together we form a team to cost effectively obtain the client's best results within the bounds of the law.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

My desire is to represent the widower, orphan and oppressed in their distress. If given the opportunity to speak, my desire is to speak for someone who does not have a voice.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

My Certified Public Accountant background helps me to understand business people and the financial affairs, challenges, and internal controls of business enterprises. My Christian faith permits me to empathize with people, dream with them, and believe with them that their tomorrow can be better than today.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

Early on in my legal education, one of my professors in law school mentioned that there were only two types of law: (1) property and (2) liberty. After considering this observation, I decided that it was important for people to be free to achieve their dreams and goals, and that their property rights must be preserved in order for them to truly be liberated. Estate planning and business enterprise helps people to build their families and communities.

What do you like best about your career?

Helping people build strong enterprises and estates to achieve their desire to build strong families and communities.

Tell us about your law firm:

Our professional team assists our clients to help them achieve their goals within the bounds of the law. We emphasize the team approach at our firm (our clients know the facts and their goals), and we know the law. Together we vigorously seek the best legal strategy to achieve the clients' goals. We require our clients to be active, educated, and honest participants in the team.

What are your strengths and style?

Our firm is a team. We sincerely care about people and their dreams, and we delight in seeing a satisfied client at the end of the engagement. We emphasize communication and education of the client from the moment the client contacts us until the close of the engagement. Many of our clients continue to stay in touch long after our engagement ends. For example, we received a Christmas gift in 2008 from a client whose engagement ended over three years ago. Further, several of our current clients are referrals from satisfied clients. We believe referrals from previous clients are an ultimate compliment and speak volumes as to the success of our "team style."

Personal Interests:

I teach 6th graders in church during Sunday School; and it is a joy to have the opportunity to participate in the development of the next generation. I am also the children's ministry choir director. I also play the guitar and sing.
