I founded Cohen Law Offices in April of 2007 in Duncansville, PA. I am opening a satellite office in Harrisburg, since I have many clients from Duncansville/Altoona, Harrisburg and Carlisle.
We provide personal attention and aggressive representation for people in need of assistance for personal injury/accidents, workers compensation, social security or bankruptcy claims. We want to help families stay in their homes.
I was a paralegal with Cohen, Axinn & Cohen before becoming an associate with the firm in 1995 and then a partner for eight years.
I think all individuals should try to educate themselves through good legal counseling. Education of the client is always beneficial so that both the lawyer and the client are on the same page. I talk to people on their own level, no matter what their educational level may be. I want clients to understand what is going on in their case at all times.
I am usually willing to review documents prepared by clients, but always prefer to talk to them either face to face or on the phone by teleconference. However, I will not use their documents as my work product.
I typically do not want to coach clients to represent themselves because it can lead to very painful results and is likely to end in disaster. However, if people cannot afford representation in a hearing, I try to make sure they are prepared to attend by having a thorough consultation beforehand.
I believed that by becoming a lawyer I could protect people who could not protect themselves from banks and insurance companies. I believe that every individual has the right to the best representation, especially when those that have the resources in this country try to take advantage of those who do not.
I worked many physical labor jobs throughout my teenage and college years. I worked as a secretary and paralegal at Cohen, Axinn & Cohen until I became licensed as a lawyer. I was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth; I have had to work hard for what I have. My personal life as a husband and father makes me compassionate. I grew up around people who had many things in life as well as those who did not have much. I have represented blue collar clients as well as doctors and other lawyers in many types of legal matters.
I am a born negotiator. I am competitive and love going to battle. I was too small to play football, so I treat my law practice as if I were on the football field blitzing and tackling the other team. I love to be the underdog and to defend people who cannot defend themselves.
I like being competitive and working with people.
My wife, Lisa, manages our offices and works as a paralegal, bookkeeper and marketing director. She is very compassionate and knows what is going on with all of our clients at all times. Clients can always call her and she can reassure them, if they are anxious.
I am a very compassionate and caring person and always give my best to my clients. I can easily talk to anyone and make them feel comfortable. I thrive on competition with insurance companies and creditors, but I also have a great working relationship with other attorneys and medical providers, which helps bring most of the personal injury/accident and workers compensation claims to settlement without a trial. Because I handle various types of cases, I can address many types of legal matters - I am multi-dimensional in my analysis of different clients' situations.
My family, Penn State Football, fast cars, giving back to my community. I am a Mason and a Shriner.

Personal injury/accidents, workers compensation and social security cases are charged on a contingent fee basis. Bankruptcy fees depend on the chapter filed, complications and county filed in and whether or not people are self-employed or own businesses.
There are no hourly rates for personal injury/accident, workers compensation and social security cases - they are contingent on you receiving a settlement. Bankruptcy cases are a fixed fee, depending on the complexity of the case.
Yes, I offer a free initial consultation for personal injury/accidents, workers' compensation cases, social security disability denials and personal bankruptcies.
Our retainer depends on the type of case.
Attorneys have passed a licensing check. Nolo has confirmed that every member attorney has a valid license and is in good standing with the applicable bar associations upon joining the directory.
