Firm Focus and History

Allen & Murphy Law brings a different type of thinking to each case. Regardless of the opposition, our attorneys are fearless in the courtroom, and our drive and preparation are unrivaled. Our success comes from the fact that we concentrate our individual attention on each case and client to develop the best strategy possible. Our focus is on complex cases in the areas of consumer litigation / fraud, defective products, employment litigation, and significant personal injury and insurance bad faith.

In 1985, after practicing as an insurance defense trial lawyer with the highly respected law firm of Pitts, Eubanks & Ross, P.A., I established my own firm. The commitment made then, which remains today, was to provide the very best legal representation while at all times adhering to the highest ethical standards. Prior to joining our firm, J. Scott Murphy was for 17 years a respected insurance defense trial lawyer, charged with the responsibility of representing large insurance carriers, health care providers, and well-known product manufacturers. Knowing "how the other side works" is an invaluable asset and one both Mr. Murphy and I have long possessed. Recently, the firm has been joined by another senior attorney, John Bringardner, a former defense attorney with a diverse background in all types of personal injury cases, as well as business litigation in state and federal courts.

Previous Employment Summary

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

An ounce of education is better than a pound of cure. With this said, we provide resources for consumers around a number of topics on our website: http://www.amcommerciallaw.com.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

We would review and need to see all documents once you become our client.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

While we certainly want you to be a part of the process, we are trained as attorneys and firmly believe we provide the best representation possible.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

We all have a responsibility to give back to society. Practicing law is one of the ways that I can contribute to make our communities safer for our families.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

As a big-wave surfer, I have learned that while I need to be fearless, I also need to be respectful and humble. These traits have benefitted me both in the ocean and in the courtroom.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

My primary focus is on helping people. Whether it is an auto accident case where we are representing the driver against an insurance company that refuses to pay against the policy or a catastrophic injury claim where we are fighting corporate greed, it seems that the other side always has more money to defend their actions. Our focus is on leveling the playing field and pursuing justice.

What do you like best about your career?

First and foremost, it's helping those in need. However I also enjoy the courtroom, arguing a case in front of a jury, and making sure that corporations and insurance companies don't put profits over people.

Tell us about your law firm:

I have been with attorney Scott Murphy for the past eight years. Attorney John Bringardner joined within the last year. Bonnie Ramos, the senior legal assistant, has been with me for 17 years. Our total firm size is nine people. We are all unique individuals, but as a team, we bring a shared vision firm our firm, and shared passion for our clients.

What are your strengths and style?

No two cases are exactly alike. Therefore, I pride myself on out-of-the-box thinking to come up with unique solutions to complex problems. I also pride myself on the ability to successfully resolve conflicts - amicably if possible, and in court as necessary.

Personal Interests:

It's been said that those who are truly blessed don't differentiate their work life from their personal life. This said, I am passionate about the practice of law, big wave surfing, traveling, and my wife and three sons. More information on my professional and personal career can be found on the Allen and Murphy website at http://www.amcommerciallaw.com.
