Criminal Defense
I'm interested in representing anyone accused or charged with a State or Federal crime. I believe every case is important from the petty theft to the homicide. Your personal background and situation are important to you and important to me. I recognize that the criminal justice system is overwhelming if you are not familiar with it. I also believe that even when you have been involved in the criminal justice system in the past, every case is worth fighting. Every day you can stay out of jail is a day you can be working for you and your family.

I represent adults and juveniles who have been accused or charged with criminal offenses. I practice in both State and Federal Courts. I spend the time necessary to obtain the best result possible for the client.
I began my private practice in 1993 and have been dedicated to criminal defense the entire time.
My entire legal career has been in the area of criminal defense and in my own private practice. I began with internships in law school at the San Francisco County Public Defender's Office and the San Francisco Federal Defender's Office.
2006 Judge Pro Tem in Alameda County; BV-Rated by Martindale-Hubbell.
I believe it is important for clients to educate themselves on legal issues. The better informed they are - the better they are able to make good decisions for themselves. The criminal justice system is intimidating and overwhelming. The more information people have, the better they can help themselves.
I'm happy to review documents clients prepare. Retaining an attorney is expensive, and for those matters that clients can handle on their own, I like to inform clients of that option, I'm a do-it-yourself kind of person and appreciate others who are the same way. It's good to know when an issue can be handled yourself, and when you should let the professional help you.
Depending on the situation, I'm happy to help people who want to represent themselves for those matters that are appropriate for them to do so.
When I decided to be a lawyer, it was to be a criminal defense lawyer, not just any type of lawyer. I realized that it is the criminal justice system where you will find the results and consequences of our social policies. I wanted to be a lawyer because I believe that we are all good people and sometimes we make bad decisions that forever change the direction of our lives. I wanted to be able to help when that happens.
When I was in law school, I interned at the San Francisco County Public Defender's Office and San Francisco Federal Public Defender's Office. Those experiences allowed me to work under some of the best lawyers in the country, and I learned a great deal about how to lawyer well. My pre-legal work experience taught me negotiation skills that have been invaluable to me and my clients. When the facts are against you - you want a lawyer that can negotiate effectively.
I am interested in the areas that constitutional law and social policy intersect in the criminal justice system.
I like meeting many interesting people and that I get to step into their lives for a brief period of time and connect with them, fight for them and, if it goes right, ultimately help them.
I am a solo practitioner.
