Wills, Trusts & Estates
My estate planning practice includes both basic estate plans and advanced tax planning. I work with clients from all backgrounds. Some of my clients are young couples with small children, and others are high net worth individuals. I also have clients with special needs children and those with substantial separate property.

Ninth Circuit, Central District of California, Northern District of California.
Beverly Hills Bar Association, Los Angeles Bar Association.
I attend numerous legal seminars on the topics of estate and tax planning.
I published my law review note in the Yale Law Journal.
Example 1 -Basic Estate Plan: A married couple with minor children and a few assets, like a house and life insurance policy, need a basic estate plan to protect their children if they are no longer around. I provide a comprehensive estate plan designed to avoid probate, eliminate estate taxes, and maximize the clients' peace of mind should anything happen to them.
Example 2 - Advanced Estate Plan: A single man with grown children, substantial commercial real estate, closely-held stock in a company about to go public, and a new business venture needs advanced tax planning to minimize his estate tax exposure, provide for his two adult children after his death, and achieve his charitable goals. I provide both basic and advanced tax planning, including a Delaware Dynasty Trust, a Delaware LLC, zeroed-out Grantor Retained Annuity Trusts, an Irrevocable Life Insurance Trust, and other short- and long-term strategies to remove appreciating assets from the client's estate.

Klapach & Klapach is a husband and wife law firm. After years of practicing at large law firms and specialty boutiques, my husband and I formed Klapach & Klapach. Our firm was born out of our shared commitment to provide the highest quality service and personalized attention to our clients. Our specialty is estate planning, although my husband also handles appeals and business litigation. Our goal is to combine the high quality service of a big law firm with the personal touch and affordability of a family lawyer. Even after we have completed an estate plan, we encourage our clients to contact us when they have questions, need advice, or simply want a referral. Our commitment is to build long-lasting relationships with all of our clients, and to have our clients view us as their personal lawyers.
After graduating from Yale Law School with honors, I clerked for the Chief Judge of the United States Second Circuit Court of Appeals. I then moved to California and worked at Munger, Tolles & Olson, one of the most prestigious law firms in the United States. After a number of years at Munger, Tolles, I transferred to a smaller boutique called De Castro, West, Glickfeld, Chodorow & Nass, where I focused on estate and tax planning for high net worth individuals. After three years at De Castro, West, I decided to start my own practice so that I could be my own boss. Since then, I have provided estate planning services to clients with net worths of between $100,000 and $20 million. In January 2009, my husband, Joe, and I decided to form the law partnership of Klapach & Klapach.
I encourage my clients to educate themselves and to ask me to explain and clarify any confusing legal concepts or terms. In fact, I regularly offer free estate planning seminars to the general public to educate people about the advantages of a properly-drafted estate plan.
I typically do not review documents prepared by clients.
I assist those of my clients who prefer to transfer assets into their trusts on their own. I also provide general advice to individuals who serve as trustees.
I believe the best lawyers help solve complex legal problems by thinking outside the box. They are analytical and creative, and they like people. I decided to become a lawyer because I love the analytical and creative challenges a lawyer faces and I enjoy working with people, especially when I can provide them with a real and high-quality service.
I graduated from Yale Law School and worked at two prestigious law firms in Los Angeles prior to starting my own practice. That has undoubtedly given me the work skills and knowledge to be an excellent attorney. But, to be honest, being a mother has greatly influenced the way I practice. My estate plans include so many things that are typically not included by firms (e.g., medical authorization forms, emergency I.D. cards, fingerprint kits) because I know, as a parent, what would enhance my own peace of mind. Whereas most firms are transactional in their approach - they provide clients with one-time documents - my goal is to build long-term relationships with clients, serve as a family lawyer for them and as a source of ongoing assistance, advice, and comfort.
Estate planning is an area of the law (one of the few) that provides a real and positive service to people. Everyone needs to protect and provide for their loved ones, and I help them do that. It makes me feel good.
I love that I can set my own hours, assist my family financially while still being a great mom, and help people protect and provide for their families as well.
My husband, Joe Klapach, and I are the sole partners of Klapach & Klapach. Joe graduated top of his class, summa cum laude, at Cornell Law School and worked at Munger, Tolles & Olson, a prestigious Los Angeles law firm, for many years before leaving to start his own practice. All of our clients deal directly with us, and enjoy the personal attention of a smaller practice.
I provide flexible scheduling and fixed fees. I explain all legal terminology and concepts to my clients so they understand exactly what they are signing and how they are protecting their families. I spend time with my clients, and I make myself available to address their concerns and answer their questions. I try to make the whole estate planning process as easy, painless, and informative as possible.
I love to read novels, biographies, poetry and journals. I like hiking with my dog. I love doing most anything with my husband and children. I am a big fan of the occasional massage and ladies' night out.

For more advanced planning, I charge either a fixed fee, which varies depending on the complexity of the plan, or my hourly fee of $300. I do not typically review wills and trusts prepared using computer programs or online forms, but will review a will or trust produced by Quicken WillMaker Plus.
