I believe clients should try to educate themselves on legal issues they are facing. I strongly recommend that clients do internet research to get informed on issues that they face.
I am always willing to review documents for a client.
I generally do not do this.
I have always loved the idea of trying to help people achieve justice, whether in a civil or criminal setting.
My work as an Assistant U.S. Attorney gave me a deep appreciation for the power of the prosecutor to impact a person or company's well-being. In the criminal context, it helped me to learn how to objectively analyze a case and dig deep into the facts because initial appearances can truly be misleading. In the civil context, I helped defend medical malpractice cases against the federal government. I represented the Veterans Hospital, the Marine Corps Hospital, the Navy Hospital, the U.S. Air Force Clinic, and federally funded Health Care Centers. This gave me a great perspective on the tactics and strategies of medical malpractice defense lawyers. The large number of federal court cases I tried as an AUSA gave me court room experience that few lawyers can match.
I've always loved litigation, and I still do.
The best part of my job is that I get paid for helping people.
I have a great associate, Christy DeLuca, who worked for an extremely large plaintiff's firm for about ten years, and really learned the ropes of the plaintiff's practice. She is very capable and relates to client's well. We make a good team.
Strengths: Tenacity, Broad Trial Experience, Good Judge of People.
Weaknesses: UNC-Chapel Hill Basketball, Ice Cream.
My four children are my favorite interest. I also enjoy hunting, fishing, reading, golf, snow-skiing and traveling.
