Bankruptcy
I prefer to work on Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 cases as well as consumer Chapter 11 cases. Additionally, I enjoy representing individuals against creditors that violate consumer protection statutes, such as the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) or Unfair and Deceptive Acts and Practices (UDAP) and automatic stay violations and discharge violations.

In this past year, I attended an intensive five day seminar run by Max Gardner in Shelby, North Carolina. There, I learned the ins and outs of bankruptcy law and consumer protection litigation. I am the only lawyer with an office in Washington, D.C. to have attended this seminal educational program.
• Received a large settlement from a payday lender for violating anti-privacy statutes in Maryland Bankruptcy Court.
• Successfully guided a six figure wage earner through the means test and to a discharge of all debt.

We have a diverse practice. 75% of my time is spent representing consumers in Bankruptcy Court in Maryland and Washington, D.C. and the remaining 25% of my time is spent representing individuals and corporations in State and Federal Court in non-bankruptcy matters.
Lawrence & Fisher began in February 2008. We both left large downtown firms to focus on representing small business and individuals.
Before opening up my own law firm, I worked at a large law firm in downtown D.C. for five years.
I believe that consumers should be fully aware of just what they're getting themselves into and that self-education is extremely important. A good lawyer will take the time to educate his or her clients on all aspects of their case and answer any questions they may have.
I will not review any official documents prepared by consumers.
None. Bankruptcy is too complex to try to do yourself.
I became a lawyer to work with interesting clients in complex settings. I come from a family of lawyers and we all enjoy problem-solving and interacting with people that need help.
In law school, I was a law clerk for the New Orleans District Attorney's Office and primarily worked on cases involving child abuse. In this experience, I learned the value of compassion as well as how powerful the law can be in providing a remedy. Bankruptcy law is obviously very different but my role as a lawyer.
Bankruptcy law gives me the opportunity to help people. In most cases, bankruptcy provides a clear solution to what is often a very complex problem. I find saving homeowners from losing their property to be particularly rewarding but I also enjoy giving consumers a fresh start from medical and credit card bills.
I enjoy working directly with people rather than just shuffling paper for a faceless corporation. I feel like at the end of the day that I have given my clients a second chance at life and financial freedom.
I have one partner, Andrew Lawrence, who primarily practices corporate law. On occasion, he assists me with bankruptcy litigation. My paralegal, Linda Rantz, works remotely but is very much involved with the day to day affairs of my office. We try to do as much work as we possibly can over the computer and by phone to reduce expenses and to make it easier on our clients to focus on the rest of their lives. I am personally involved with every petition that I file from the initial interview to your final discharge of your debt.
I am a compassionate and energetic young lawyer and I am committed to my clients' success.
I don't believe your case ends after I file your petition and I fight to see that all of your rights are enforced in Court. The bottom line is that I care about what I'm doing and dedicated to my clients.
I enjoy spending time with my wife and our two dogs, Copper and Champ, fishing with my brother and father and cooking.
Linda Rantz.
