Papers and Publications

Example Cases

Worker's Compensation: A 64 year-old shipping clerk suffered a work-related head injury that ended his career. Rather than admit liability, his employer denied his worker's compensation claim. Due to age discrimination and in retaliation for his worker's compensation claim, his employer unlawfully terminated his employment. They claimed he was fired for poor job performance. We are making claims for wrongful termination and worker's compensation.

Auto Accident: A 66 year-old maintenance worker was injured in a work-related car accident. Years before, he had had a total hip replacement. The accident aggravated his hip and he needed a new replacement. His employer denied worker's compensation because he was using his private car. We are making claims against the driver that ran the red light and caused the accident. We are also making claims against his employer for worker's compensation.

Bicycle Accident: A 40 year-old woman was riding her bicycle against traffic at night when she was struck by an unmarked police vehicle traveling at a high speed down the wrong side of the street. The two involved police officers blamed the woman and claimed that they were on their way to a shooting with lights and sirens activated. We believed our client, discovered evidence that the police were not truthful and are seeking damages from the police.

Dog Attack: A 45 year-old man was walking down a public street when he was attacked by a neighborhood Rottweiler that was running loose. The dog knocked him down but did not bite him. In the fall, he fractured his wrist requiring surgery. We are making claims against the dog owner and home owner where the dog lives.

These pending cases are typical for our firm.

Firm Focus and History

The firm was first established as Wadley & Colligan in the early 1970s. Our first home was in the Western Union Building directly across Broad Street from Newark City Hall. For the last 30 years, we've seen Newark's rebirth from our offices in the Academy Building, which is located in the heart of the Downtown District and across the street from the Prudential Insurance Company corporate headquarters.

Our firm has been focused on personal injury, worker's compensation and litigation for almost 40 years.

Previous Employment Summary

I began my legal carrier on Wall Street as a litigation associate with one of the oldest and most prestigious law firms, Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

An educated client is often able to better assist me by asking relevant questions and providing more meaningful information.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

Review of client created documents is a regular part of client service in the practice of law.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

In some instances, it is not economically feasible or even reasonable to hire a lawyer. When hiring a lawyer does not make sense, I am willing to help my clients with their pro se matters.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

For as long as I can remember, I wanted to be a lawyer. When I was a boy, I would talk to my father about his cases and his clients. From watching him, I knew the career I wanted.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

I have almost 30 years experience in the personal injury and litigation fields. While a student, I was a paralegal in my father's law office. After law school, I worked on Wall Street at one of the oldest and most prestigious law firms, Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft. Since joining the family personal injury practice, I have enjoyed the hands-on, close contact with my clients.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

I wanted to represent ordinary people. From my time on Wall Street, I knew that I wanted to represent real people with real problems, since I did not get satisfaction representing large corporate clients.

What do you like best about your career?

I like helping my clients recover money and improve their lives.

Tell us about your law firm:

My secretary Nancy has been with the office for more than 35 years. I've known her since I was a boy. If you need something, Nancy is there to help.

What are your strengths and style?

I am friendly, positive, and honest.

Personal Interests:

My family is my greatest personal interest. I live in northern New Jersey with my beautiful wife, three wonderful sons and their friendly dog, Atticus.

My other interests are tree farming, doubles tennis, Rutgers football, politics and computers.

Office Manager/Assistant

Nancy.
