Judge Plichta, founder of our law firm in 1977, turned his extensive law experience into a legal powerhouse of lawyers and expert staff focused solely on providing clients defense in a broad range criminal cases. Since then, our law firm has helped thousands with legal help and advice.
Based in Marietta, Plichta, Alavi & Associates offers expert legal defense services in the metro Atlanta area and throughout Georgia. With over 33 years of experience, Plichta, Alavi & Associates can get you results with the respect and dignity you deserve.
We are proud of our unique distinction as a powerful legal defense team. We were founded by a former appointed magistrate judge, a career high-profile criminal defense lawyer and a staff of associates, including former solicitors and assistant district attorneys. Our lawyers and staff are dedicated to those we serve by providing personalized legal counsel and individualized attention to our clients. Each case is evaluated from the perspective of what a Judge expects and what a Prosecutor is seeking, always focusing on the best possible legal outcome for our client.
Our founder, Roger Plichta, has worked as a Magistrate and Municipal Court judge. I worked on organized crime prosecutions through the Strike Force office, including the internationally reported Gold Club case with the United States Attorney's office. I also worked on death penalty cases for the Georgia Attorney General before going into private practice. Scott Halperin and Robbie Horlick, associate attorneys with the firm, have both been career criminal defense attorneys.
Life Skills for Metro Prisoners' Project Founders' Award; Legal Aid pro bono award, Judge Pro Tem (Roger Plichta).
A client who takes an active interest in his/her case will always feel more comfortable with the process and the outcome. The attorney puts the pieces of the puzzle together to come up with the final result, but it is the client's input that determines what the final result will be. As such, I encourage all clients to take an active role in participating in their defense.
I will, of course, take a look at any information a client may feel is helpful to the case, but I am cautious about information that travels through the internet which is not tailored specifically to the client's particular unique facts and circumstances.
The criminal justice system is a complex and it needs to be navigated cautiously to produce the best outcome. I do not believe that individuals will obtain good results or that the system will adequately protect the rights of individuals if they are not informed about the safeguards that the law provides. As such, I do not encourage self-representation.
I decided to become an attorney because I believe in justice, not just the theory of justice, but that individuals are entitled to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Each person is created with imperfections. Sometimes these imperfections cause conflict with our system of justice. Many times, people are treated as statistics and not as human beings. I believe in creating second chances and in taking an individual's current situation and making his or her entire life better.
I have seen the justice system from both sides of the courtroom. This gives me a unique perspective of being able to establish not just what a judge and prosecutor want to see, but also what a jury wants to see.
As a criminal defense attorney, my life is my work. I love the law, and I love how the law can protect an individual's rights. No area of the law is more personal to one's liberty that criminal defense. If a society can be judged by how it treats those charged with criminal acts, then criminal attorneys are the shield between liberty and oppression.
I enjoy making a difference in a client's life. Often times, clients will come to me long after their case is over almost as members of my family. I love knowing that someone's life is better off because of the work I put into their case.
We have a team of paralegals and attorneys that work very closely on each case to produce the best possible results for our clients. By taking a team approach to our clients' cases, we are able to explore multiple different philosophies and viewpoints to come up with the best strategy on each case.
I enjoy speaking in front of people. As such, being in front of a jury is something I thrive at. Many attorneys call themselves trial attorneys, but I truly enjoy the relationship that is created between a litigator and the jury.
When not in the courtroom or the office, I enjoy boating, spending time with family, and traveling.
Susan Carvel.

Fees are determined based on the type of case and the anticipated work involved, given the unique facts and circumstances of each case. We quote fees during a free initial consultation. Fees for minor misdemeanors are as low as $500, and fees for low-level felonies begin at $2,500. By providing a flat-fee rate, clients do not feel that being in contact with their attorney is "costing them money," and are instead encouraged to contact the firm as often as they feel is necessary to produce the best result.
We offer fixed, flat fees.
Initial consultations are free and take as long as is necessary to adequately evaluate the case.
There is no typical case. We do not provide cookie cutter services, but instead, tailor our defense to each individual, who is unique and must be treated as an individual and not a statistic.
Attorneys have passed a licensing check. Nolo has confirmed that every member attorney has a valid license and is in good standing with the applicable bar associations upon joining the directory.
Directory lawyers are required to notify Nolo immediately if they become the subject of any disciplinary action by any bar association.
