Firm Focus and History

Our Family Law attorneys hold over a decade of experience serving clients in Riverside County. The Firm's founder left a mid-sized firm in order to provide a broader array of services to clients and a higher level of personal service to each client. Having a smaller firm with a reasonable case load allows us to better focus on clients more intently, and provide them with more personalized legal representation.

Our Riverside County Family Law Firm focuses on the individual needs of our clients. Although we specialize in aggressive and zealous legal representation, our plan of action is strictly determined by the client's wishes - either aggressive or conciliatory. Our attorneys remain available to clients to address any questions or concerns they may have. Each case is assigned to an attorney and a paralegal that are intimately acquainted with the case and desired outcome. The client is completely informed each step of the way so that a fully informed decision can be made. No other Family Law attorney in Riverside County offers more personal or aggressive legal representation, whether it involves divorce, child custody and visitation, support, division of property, or separation, domestic violence and protection orders.

Previous Employment Summary

Prior to the founding of The Law Office of Michael R. Young, APC, I practiced at a mid-sized firm located in the Inland Empire. It was a litigation firm in a very specialized field that required each attorney carry a high case load. The narrow area of practice demanded short-term relationships and I was unable to offer clients a preferably wider area of representation.

Activities and Awards

I completed an externship with the Honorable Robert Alberts, U.S. District Court, as well as with the Office of the United States Trustee.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

When clients retain the Law Office of Michael R. Young, APC to represent them in their Family Law matter, clients are fully informed about the legal issues that immediately impact their case. While it is generally good that a client have a basic understanding of the issues involved in a case, the case might be negatively impacted if a client continually second-guesses the case strategy. Doing so can become more time consuming and ultimately more costly to the client.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

While the Law Office of Michael R. Young is a full-service law firm that fully represents a client through all stages of his or her case, from the pleading to court sessions, we do routinely request clients to prepare a declaration or summary of the issues and / or chronology of events that may relate to their case, including child custody and visitation issues, property division, or any history of domestic violence incidents or restraining orders issued; all of which we thoroughly review. First-hand information from clients is extremely helpful in the preparation of a strong case.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

The Law Office of Michael R. Young, APC is a full-service law firm and does not merely prepare documents, but will fully represent clients at all stages of their Family Law case. Therefore, our office does not coach clients that represent themselves.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

I chose to become a lawyer to provide a valuable service to the people of my community with the desire to assist them during difficult times and possibly improve the quality of their lives.

Personally, I thrive on intellectual challenges and am an aggressive individual who thoroughly enjoys a vigorous debate; character traits which lend themselves well to the legal profession.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

Unlike other lawyers born with a silver spoon in their mouth, I came from a blue collar background and put myself through college and law school. My work experience includes a variety of jobs in areas like construction, manufacturing and retail sales. My background, education and work experiences have empowered me with a great degree of people skills and knowledge to draw from, and have allowed me to remain sensitive to the needs of my clients, while providing them with effective and aggressive legal representation.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

I thoroughly enjoy the challenges associated with Family Law because it involves a wide array of complex issues, such as divorce, child custody, child support and visitation, division of property, separation and domestic violence. Family law also allows for close client contact and enables court room argument on a daily basis, which, in turn, provides me with a considerable amount of invigorating courtroom experience.

What do you like best about your career?

As a Family Law attorney in Riverside County I've been able to continually build upon my existing law experience and knowledge. During the course of providing clients with exceptional legal representation, I've become a recognized and respected leader in the community, which has granted me a great sense of pride and accomplishment.

Tell us about your law firm:

The Law Office of Michael R. Young, APC has a wonderful support staff that compliments our attorneys. Our staff is always available and anxious to help. Being intimately familiar with every one of our cases enables our paralegals to answer most questions or inquiries clients may have while the attorneys are in court sessions.

What are your strengths and style?

The Family Law attorneys of our law firm are aggressive litigators with extensive experience working with the Riverside County courts. We present clients with realistic possible outcomes and are able to predict the best strategy for achieving their desired result. Adding to our strength is an exceptional staff, who are highly efficient and always responsive to clients.
