Example Cases

A client came into my office who was a single mother with a disabled child. She had just come from court on a hearing for a debt owed to a credit card company. While she was in the courthouse, the company had her handicapped accessible van towed away. I filed a bankruptcy petition within a couple of hours for her and had the van returned to her later that day.

Firm Focus and History

The company began in 1997 with one office in Worcester, Massachusetts and has grown to four offices throughout Massachusetts with the addition of a second attorney in 2008.

My firm's focus is to assist consumers and small businesses in Massachusetts in obtaining relief under the Bankruptcy Code.

Previous Employment Summary

As a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, School of Business, I worked for a Certified Public Accounting firm from 1991 to 1996 before entering law school, where I graduated in 1996.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

Some of my best clients are those who have taken the time to educate themselves on the various options available to them. I believe that a well-versed client can better assist me in providing the information that I need to better serve them.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I would be happy to review documents prepared by clients although I believe that the bankruptcy laws are far too complex to advise a client to represent themselves in filing for bankruptcy.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I don't believe that in bankruptcy cases a client should represent themselves, so I really don't feel comfortable coaching a client in doing so.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

I was an accountant for several years and had many clients who were attorneys. I saw how they made a real difference in their clients' lives. I decided that this was an area in which I could "make a difference."

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

My experience and education in business and accounting assist me in understanding finances, which in turn gives me a greater ability to counsel my clients in my area of practice.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

I began doing bankruptcy work in 1997 and found that the Bankruptcy Code was very well written. When the Code was revised in 2005, I decided to dedicate my practice to educating clients about the misconceptions about bankruptcy as well as the changes in the Code in particular.

What do you like best about your career?

I believe that attorneys who practice this area of law can make an incredible difference in peoples' lives. I have had clients contact me months and years after receiving their bankruptcy discharges thanking me for the impact I have had on their families.

Tell us about your law firm:

I have an associate who assists me in managing my various offices in Massachusetts, and I have a paralegal who is knowledgeable about each client's particular matter.

Additionally, I have carefully chosen support staff who have different duties assigned to them so that our clients are guided through each step of the process.

What are your strengths and style?

I am very detail-oriented and knowledgeable about the type of law that I do. I take pride in making sure that my client's matters are handled professionally, confidentially, and with the utmost care.

Personal Interests:

I enjoy spending time with my three daughters. I'm from Massachusetts, so I enjoy following the Patriots, Celtics and Red Sox.
