I established the firm in October 2008 after a post-law school clerkship with the Federal District Court, District of Delaware.
The focus of the firm is to provide intelligent and cost-effective legal representation to family law clients in Southern New Jersey. I help clients make decisions based on an understanding of the law, weighing the pros and cons of the legal options available to them, and provide mediation services to clients who are willing to sit down and work through their problems to form an acceptable agreement.
Federal District Court, DE, Law Clerk for the Honorable Judge Mary Pat Thynge; Helix Systems, VP of Marketing and Sales; Ameristar Technologies, Account Manager; Hewlett Packard Corporation, Marketing Engineer and Account Manager; Tulane University Medical School, Research Associate; Yale University School of Medicine, Research Associate.
Matrimonial disputes are fact-intensive and require clients to be actively involved in the process, whether in litigation or mediation. Better-informed clients understand the importance of providing the appropriate materials and certifications to help their case. My job is to lead the client through the process, but ultimately it is their decision on how to proceed.
Documents prepared by clients are welcome.
Clients who represent themselves and just need some advice or document review are welcome.
In my third (and final) career, my motivation was to apply my problem-solving and people skills in order to make a difference in people's lives. Prior employers have praised me on my unique ability to counsel and mediate matters between arguing factions. The intellectual challenge and broadness of the law, combined with these factors motivated me to attend law school and become an attorney.
My experience in both legal and non-legal matters has shaped my creative and intelligent approach to law that few other attorneys can match. The analytical skills I developed through attaining my MBA and practice in the private industry help clients with complex financial issues. In addition to three graduate degrees, I've attended classes in Leadership Effectiveness Training, KT Decision Making, and Situational Negotiation Skills. I am a New Jersey State Approved Professional Family Law Mediator. I have experience in marketing, technical consulting, team leadership/building, sales and account management, strategic business planning - and real world exposure to problems and issues between individuals, groups and corporations. As a marathon runner, I understand the importance of stamina and resolve in reaching long-term goals.
I've counseled many friends going through difficult times in their personal lives. Helping them to get their lives back together provided me with a great sense of satisfaction. Family Law was a natural choice for me.
I really enjoy making a difference in people's lives.
I am a solo practitioner, so all my clients deal directly with me.
I'm a good listener. I have a consultative and non-judgmental style that my clients find very comforting. I prefer resolving disputes through mediation when couples can communicate and desire to reach their own result. Litigation should be used when necessary, when other methods fail and there is no possible resolution through balanced negotiation.
I'm a loving parent of two wonderful girls. On weekends, I'm a soccer dad. When I have time, I'm a do-it-yourself kind of a guy around the house. I have done many small home projects right through to major restorations where I did the majority of the work and/or acted as a contactor. I restored vintage autos in the past, but now I only work on vintage guitars. I collect, restore and sometimes sell them. I play bass guitar in a local neighborhood rock band. I exercise regularly, training for marathons, triathlons and local running races. I mountain bike in the winter and road bike in warmer weather. I sail a J-22 sailboat on the Delaware river north of Philadelphia. We race on Wednesday nights out of the Riverton Yacht Club in Riverton New Jersey. I belong to the Narragansett Salt Water Fishing Club, where I enjoy fly fishing and plugging for striped bass off the beach and in the bay. I enjoy traveling and try to participate in a running event if possible when visiting a new place.
