IN, May 1981
Bar Number: 12644 98
I am admitted to practice in Indiana by the Indiana Supreme Court and the United States Federal Courts in the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana.
Indiana State Bar Association, National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys.
I typically complete three to four times the required number of continuing education hours each year in order to increase my knowledge and effectiveness in representing my clients.
I have taken many clients through Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy to give them a fresh start. I do more for clients than most bankruptcy attorneys, turning the tables on creditors and winning money for my clients.
Just recently, I won settlements of $8,000 and $5,000 for two of my bankruptcy clients against their creditors. The creditors harassed my clients by attempting to collect debts while my clients were in bankruptcy or had debts that had been discharged in bankruptcy. I aggressively pursue creditors who violate Federal law in collecting debt under the Fair Debt Collection Protection Act (FDCPA), violate the bankruptcy stay of collection proceedings during the bankruptcy, violate the bankruptcy court order discharging debt or fail to properly record the discharge of debts with the credit reporting agencies.
In the area of real estate law, in the last two years, I have argued my clients' cases in courts throughout Indiana, from Lake County in northwest Indiana, to Vanderburgh County in the southwest, to Stueben County in the northeast, to Dearborn County in the southeast and many points in between. I have represented dozens of clients and won hundreds of thousands of dollars and obtained deeds for property worth much more.

Indiana
I have been practicing law in East Central Indiana since 2004 and have represented a wide range of individual and business clients all over the state of Indiana. I opened my new office at its current location in Connersville in November 2007.
I focus on helping you take care of your financial and legal needs. While my firm is a general practice handling a wide variety of legal issues for my clients, I focus on helping people who are having financial difficulties and are considering bankruptcy. I do not just file paperwork for my clients, but work with them to develop a plan to get creditors off their backs. I help clients get back on their feet for a fresh start.
I will pursue creditors who are breaking the law and am successful in winning monetary damages for my clients.
A large part of my practice is in real estate. I prepare and handle property title and transfer through deeds, contracts, leases, quiet title actions and particularly tax liens and tax deeds. I am one of a handful of attorneys who represent clients across the state with their tax lien purchases, petitioning for deed or defending title.
I began my private practice in Noblesville, Indiana in 1981. I have worked in a number of different fields including the insurance, computer, real estate and title search industries. I have also worked for religious, charitable and community organizations.
Judge Pro Tem for the Fayette County Circuit Court; Appointed by the Fayette County Circuit and Superior Courts as Pauper Attorney for Fayette County; Pro Bono work.
I encourage my clients to learn all they can about the legal issues they are facing. The more my clients know, the better they are at helping me to help them. I can navigate through the legal maze and advise clients of pitfalls and the rewards, but I need their help in providing complete and accurate information for the best possible outcome.
I am willing to review documents prepared by my clients, but the best use of my time and my clients' resources is for my office to prepare the necessary documents clients need to get the best results.
The best and most efficient help I can give clients is to actually represent them, rather than just coaching them from the sidelines.
As I was growing up, one of my favorite TV shows was Perry Mason. I liked the fact that Mason always won the case for his clients, usually because of his ability to get to the truth and reveal it in a unique way to the jury. As a freshman in high school, there was a senior ahead of me who was a great debater I admired. I heard him say that he planned to go to law school and it was then that I decided I wanted to be a lawyer, too.
Becoming a lawyer was far different than the images and ideas I had as a child and in high school. It took a lot of work and years of education to reach my goal. But now I can win cases for my clients and help them out of tough fixes, just like Perry Mason.
I learn something from every person I meet and every client I represent. My best experiences and education come from the great people I get the privilege to represent. I am always learning and growing from every case I take, every book I read and every class I take, so that I can be a better attorney.
The primary areas of my practice are bankruptcy, real estate and tax liens. I started with tax liens because of my interest in making some personal investments, which quickly expanded into a statewide legal practice with several hundred clients.
I started doing bankruptcies almost by accident. One of my assistants had a friend who was interested in filing bankruptcy and asked me to be the attorney. I was reluctant at first, but agreed to do it. It took some time for me to get through my first bankruptcy, but once it was done, I was hooked and I loved it. My best clients are those who are going through bankruptcy. They are the greatest people in the world and the most grateful for my help. I have clients who drop in to see me from time to time, drop off candy or cake, or just to say "Hi."
Since that first bankruptcy case, I now file dozens of bankruptcy cases a month and have expanded my bankruptcy practice to file lawsuits against creditors on behalf of my clients.
I have great satisfaction in helping people through the difficult times for a fresh start. Every day is a challenge and an adventure, and I get to work with some of the best people in the world.
My Office Manager is Heather Gill. She is extremely good at helping, communicating with people, and keeping clients comfortable and informed. People enjoy her knowledgeable and friendly attitude.
My Bankruptcy Assistant is Michelle Alcorn. Michelle has been working with bankruptcy clients for over eighteen years. People are always telling me how friendly Michelle is and how much they appreciate her care and concern for them.
My Real Estate Assistant is Joan Snyder. Joan is great at making sure I meet all my deadlines. She is one of the most organized and efficient people I know. I am glad she keeps my clients and me on schedule.
I am best when I am arguing my client's case before the court. I believe in being direct with my clients and the judge. I expect myself and my assistants to be knowledgeable, competent and efficient. I am very good at getting to the heart of an issue and making it easy to understand for my clients and for the judges.
My personal interests are my family and my community. My church family is very important to me, being helpful, supportive and encouraging.
My wife, Chris, is a Middle School art teacher and the Assistant Coach for the high school speech team. I work with her helping the young men and women going to speech competitions and judging, taking team pictures and giving advice and encouragement to the team members.
I have three sons. Daniel is a graduate student at Indiana University in Bloomington. Nathaniel is a student at Belmont University in Nashville and is preparing for law school next year. Joshua is taking classes at Indiana University East in Richmond , and works for me in the law office.

Every client and each case is different, and I like to review and discuss all the necessary information before I discuss fees. My bankruptcy services are typically based upon fixed-price fees established by the bankruptcy court order of fees and are very reasonable.
I hope to establish a long-term relationship with my clients, and to win settlements and damage awards far greater than their initial fees.
I do not charge hourly rates for bankruptcy services. Lawsuits filed against creditors on behalf of our clients are on a contingency fee basis so there are no extra costs or fees to our clients.
Yes, I offer a free initial consultation. Initial consultations are usually thirty minutes to one hour in which I answer all the initial questions that people have about their financial situation. Sometimes in my initial consultation, I discover that bankruptcy is not an option and we explore other alternatives.
