I fulfill my continuing legal education requirement by attending conferences of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys, the American Bankruptcy Law Forum and the Ohio State Bar Association. I also speak before various groups of attorneys on issues related to bankruptcy.
I have represented my clients' interests against major national credit card companies and mortgage servicers. In one case, I argued against an objection to a client's Chapter 13 case by a large credit card company and won on all major issues, obtaining confirmation of the case.
In another case in which a mortgage servicing company continued to harass my client after he had surrendered property, I was able to secure a monetary settlement without court intervention and with minimal cost to my client.

The Law Office of Scott A. Kramer, LLC was established in September 2003 after I spent a year managing the busy local office of a national bankruptcy firm. I felt that I could provide better, more personal representation to the client. I believe that I have found that approach and continue to employ and refine it everyday.
The Law Office of Scott A. Kramer, LLC is a legal practice limited to representing consumers in Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy. We focus on protecting the individual and their assets from creditor activity so that you get the relief you deserve.
My prior employment includes a year of general consumer-related practice immediately after law school. Following that, I managed the local office of one of the nation's largest consumer bankruptcy firms. In the summer of 2003, I opened my own bankruptcy practice to provide a highly personalized level of service to my clients.
Clients should educate themselves on the basics of Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy before meeting with an attorney. This not only helps the client better understand his or her rights and obligations in a bankruptcy case, but also helps in selecting an attorney. Choosing the right attorney is central to success in any legal representation, including bankruptcy.
I am very willing to review documents prepared by clients, such as a listing of their debts, property or living expenses. This can be very helpful to gain an understanding of their case. Nevertheless, clients should also realize that it is necessary for me to review all source documentation in preparing a case, such as, but not limited to, billing statements, creditor correspondence, deeds and mortgages, pay stubs and tax returns.
I do not engage in coaching clients who represent themselves on a pro se basis. This can cause problems for both the client and raise ethical issues for the attorney.
At this point in my career, I don't recall what prompted me to go to law school. What I can say is that I practice consumer bankruptcy so that I can be of service to regular people. I don't represent large businesses, corporations or creditors; just consumers.
I believe that I am a better lawyer because I have not been a lawyer my entire adult life. In other words, I had a career before deciding to go to law school. This gives me a unique and pragmatic perspective on the troubles faced by my clients.
I chose bankruptcy as a practice area because it allows me to provide help and relief to the average person against the large corporate interest. I love going to bat for "the little guy" and winning over the corporate "Goliath."
The answer to this question is simple. I am able to help people by reducing the stress in their lives that results from financial difficulties.
I am a solo practitioner with a small staff of assistants. This means that my clients deal directly with me, or an assistant who knows me and my practice very well. We are attentive to our clients needs and make every effort to return phone calls within 24 hours, if not the same day the calls are received.
My strengths, I believe, include my ability to sit down with clients and focus solely on their story. The question I often ask myself in listening to prospective clients is "What would be the best outcome given the facts of their case and how can we achieve this end?"
My style is relaxed. I try to communicate to my clients that relief is available and that the stress caused by things like creditor harassment can be dealt with effectively. I am also honest and blunt. If there are limitations on a case or if I am not able to help, my clients know this.
My personal interests begin with my family. I have a wonderful wife and three beautiful children who get most of my time. I love to cook and enjoy eating what I prepare. Fortunately, I am also an avid, sometimes rabid, cyclist.

My fee for most Chapter 7 cases is $1,200 plus the filing fee. More complex cases may require an increase in the fee structure.
