I do arbitrations for the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), the National Arbitration Forum and the National Futures Association. I'm also an administrative law judge for two state agencies.
I believe that a person should become familiar and knowledgeable in the areas of law that affect or may affect them. I welcome clients who do research and asks questions to become informed and able to make decisions.
Yes, it is important that a client's voice is expressed in any document when practicable. I try to make sure that the documents are technically correct, expressing the true desire of the client and has his or her best interests in mind.
I often will coach people for whatever reason who can not afford an attorney or if it is easier and more cost-effective to represent themselves. I will provide them with the pros and cons as necessary.
This profession offers a way to be socially proactive. Additionally, my line of work also matches my personality since I am analytical and inquisitive. The desire to positively impact people's lives and the legal process makes being a lawyer a perfect fit for me.
Every place I've been, I've learned the value and importance of listening. Because I'm working in the area of family law, where one is not dealing with abstracts but rather the everyday impact that court proceedings have on lives, I try to approach my cases from that standpoint. I am able to handle cases from a more human perspective. Doing matrimonial work showed me that it is important to empower parties so they can resolve their own problems down the line. I've also learned that despite the difficulty of many family law proceedings, it is important to get through the process quickly for the sake of saving clients money and helping family members involved.
I wanted to practice where I could have a positive influence on people in concrete ways. I like to help individuals solve problems.
I am able to have a positive impact on people's lives. I like to empower people in such a way that they that can resolve their own problems or understand their rights.
I'm a solo practitioner, but I do have relationships with other lawyers who can assist if the need should arise.
I am an active listener and try to get through the process as quickly and effectively as possible.
I am passionate about history, so I do a lot historical research. I have a blog on current events and have started to work on documentary filmmaking. I think it's important for us to honor and cherish people who came before us who lived in such a way that our lives are better today.
