Continuing Education

I have provided lectures for a continuing legal education provider in New York. I also take similar seminars over the internet and often exceed the required amount of such hours.

Example Cases

1. After a 3 day trial in a NY Probate court in the early 1990s, I successfully defended against an attack against the appointment of an Executor in a $400K estate.

2. After a NJ trial lasting about one week in the mid to late 1990s, in Chancery Division, my client was granted permission by the Court to place a gate at the end of his driveway which was also an easement in favor of the opposing party in the same case.

3. The majority of cases after proceeding, under the supervision of the court, through pre-trial proceedings, usually settle within the time constraints imposed by the court in family law related actions.

Firm Focus and History

The firm was established in the County of Queens, in New York City, NY, in Fall, 1981. Thereafter, after licensure in the State of New Jersey in 1989, the next office location was formally opened in the Winter of 1994. The needs of clients are actively prosecuted and protected from both offices, both in the State of New York and in the State of New Jersey.

The primary thrust of our law practice in both the State of New Jersey and in the State of New York is family related matters primarily focusing on the resolution and disposition of the issues surrounding divorce, including equitable distribution, spousal maintenance and alimony, child custody, parenting time and child support.

Previous Employment Summary

Upon graduation from law school in 1975, I was employed in the NYC District offices of the NASD, the forerunner to the current financial regulatory agency known as FINRA for Wall Street stock brokerage firms. In 1977 I joined the firm of LeSchack & Grodensky, located at the time at the intersection of Broadway and Canal Street in lower Manhattan, NY. Among the firm's clients were the company now known as Keyspan, Consolidated Edison and New York Telephone. In Fall, 1978, I moved further uptown in NYC and became an associate at the firm then known as Rood, Schwartz Cohen and Ruderman located at 40th Street and Madison Ave., NYC. The firm represented, amongst other financial services companies, Chrysler Credit Company and Ford Motor Credit Corporation.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

An educated client aids their attorney in representing the him or herself to try to attain the desired fruitful conclusion of the services provided by the attorney to the client.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

Having done so in the past, I'm willing to continue to do so in the future, under certain circumstances.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

Having done so in the past, I'm willing to continue to do so in the future, under certain circumstances.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

When I was nine years of age, I met an attorney who knew my mother. I was so impressed by his demeanor, knowledge, accomplishments and the respect accorded to him by others, that I resolved to follow in his footsteps.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

I have read almost two thousand books in my life. I have a good solid liberal arts as well as business education. I have a wide breath of business experience and legal experience. Each employment position prior to 1981 gave me a greater perspective when viewing each new legal problem a client is confronted by. As a young man I began working at the age of 13 years as a manual laborer and, later, while a lawyer, was a member of a corporation which conducted endeavors as an independent record producer. I know how dear monies can be in the midst of legal battle and I try not to unnecessarily spend my client's funds while, at the same time, trying to vigorously prosecute and/or defend my client's rights.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

It slowly evolved as a natural progression from my trial experience.

What do you like best about your career?

I enjoy helping people help themselves through difficult times. Many of the decisions my clients make will be difficult and will have an impact on the rest of their lives. I give support and knowledge through a system fraught with peril where the average person has had little or no experience prior to their current problems and issues.

Tell us about your law firm:

I am a solo practitioner. Though I am often in court, I personally return every phone call and every email, usually within 24 hours or less of the receipt of such. My clients always deal directly with me.

What are your strengths and style?

I am forthright and always truthful. My philosophy is that an informed client is a client who can then help me do the best job I can for that client. As I do not read minds I always ask. I always explain alternatives and explore likely consequences to help my clients make the decision they feel is right for them.

I try to address and resolve issues to avoid going to court. This is sometimes known as practicing for litigation avoidance.

Personal Interests:

I like spending time with family and friends, extensive personal reading of best-sellers, skiing, archery, horseback riding, personal technology and classic cars.
