Criminal Defense
I prefer to take on cases that will be interesting and or present interesting legal issues.
TX, May 2001
Bar Number: 24029903
Texas and Northern District.
Texas state bar, member family association, Dallas criminal defense lawyers association.
Each year I attend various seminars covering various topics. I have attended a forensics seminar several time, Intox. Manslaught School, Advanced Family Law.
Recently, I had a trial where my client was charged with aggravated sexual assault which carried a possible punishment of 5 years confinement to life in prison. We ended up getting a hung jury. The prosecutor then agreed to reduce the offense to a juvenile offense (which kept it off my client's record) and we pled him out to time served.
In September, 2008 I tried a DWI 2nd offense. My client was on probation when he was arrested. If convicted, my client was looking at jail time. The jury deliberated for three minutes and found my client not guilty.

My firm is a low volume firm. This means that my fees are not inexpensive, but it allows me to take fewer clients and provide the client time and attention that their case deserves. I understand how stressful the legal process can be. I try to keep my client informed about their case in order to reduce stress. Defendants never get the best results when their lawyers take the path of least resistance. They generally get the best results by setting cases for trial.
Prior to starting my firm, a was an Assistant District Attorney for Dallas County.
Super Lawyer Rising Star, Municipal Judge and Magistrate for the city of The Colony, Texas.
I think that it is a great idea. It allows the client to have a better understanding of their legal situation and to make more informed decisions regarding their representation.
I will review documents on a case by case basis.
Generally, I do not recommend that a person represent themselves.
When I was a teenager, my vehicle was struck my a taxi cab. The insurance company took advantage of me because I didn't know my rights. I felt that was fundamentally unfair.
As a former prosecutor and practicing criminal defense attorney, I have forged relationships with the prosecutors. My prosecutors trust me, which makes it easier to see the case from my client's perspective. In addition, I provide my clients with the attention that their case deserves. During the course of the representation I get to know my clients and I care what happens to them.
When I left the District Attorney's office it seemed natural to pursue a career in criminal defense.
Don't get me wrong, I have represented clients who were clearly guilty. However, most of my clients were either falsely accused, suffered from substance abuse, or is a good person who made a poor decision. I think most people deserve a second chance. Without an acquittal, the criminal justice system does not provide second chances. If an individual is convicted, that label will follow them to the grave.
I am a solo practitioner, so all of my client deal directly with me.
Many attorneys are overly aggressive. The result is that the jury thinks the attorney is a jerk. I am very aggressive when the situation calls for it. The goal of a trial is to be able to communicate with the jury so that they find my version more compelling than the State's version of the events.
Working out and staying physically fit. I enjoy cooking, reading, and staying on top of current events.
