Firm Focus and History

Bambi Faivre Walters, PC has prosecuted over 900 patents and trademarks in the U.S. and foreign countries with issued patents in the U.S., Japan, Israel, Brazil, Mexico, Canada, Argentina, United Kingdom, France, Germany, and other countries. We have secured numerous copyright registrations and handled intellectual property litigation on behalf of individual artists as well as entertainment companies, musical bands, and others. We have offices in Hampton Roads, Virginia and near Winston-Salem, NC.

Our attorneys are each fully accredited in general law practice with J.D. degrees from leading schools in intellectual property law, are registered USPTO patent attorneys, and are also degreed engineers with extensive and varied real world design, development, architectural, and/or construction experience. Our combination of practical engineering experience along with our legal expertise and broad familiarity with intellectual property issues enable us to best protect our clients' interests. Our experience crosses a broad variety of industries and devices including specific legal and technical expertise in automotive, computer, control systems, chemistry, electrical, electronic, environmental, healthcare, manufacturing, mechanical, medical, nanotechnology, semiconductor, software, telecommunication, transportation, and other areas.

In addition, our practice is proud to support Indian Civil Rights, tribal governance and other Native American concerns. Our claim to excellence is that we combine our technical and legal expertise to file and follow through in securing the broadest attainable patent, trademark and other intellectual property protection for each client and in strategically advising each client to promote, maintain and protect assets and legal rights.

I'm proud that Bambi Faivre Walters, PC is a certified, Native American, woman-owned legal services firm devoted to helping promote the implementation of new technologies and inventions as well as to strategically leverage and protect the assets of each client. Founded in 2002, we are dedicated to acting positively and professionally within a solid framework of personal integrity and mutual respect. Combining both professional and technical experience, our focus for each of our clients is to vigorously pursue the most effective legal protection of their ideas, products, logo, services, creative works and other assets. We're committed to ensuring that each client - individuals, business entities, government entities, tribal entities, and foreign entities - receives every appropriate legal right and is optimally positioned to receive maximum future returns.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

In general, if a client is competent to perform his/her own legal services, than we will facilitate self help. In addition, there is publicly available self help assistance in some areas for US Copyright protection and enforcement via www.copyright.gov and for US Patent and/or Trademark protection and enforcement via www.uspto.gov/web/offices/pac/dapp/pacmain.html. Other public assistance is available from Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for US Customs IPR and contact information may be accessed by searching www.dhs.gov.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

Our legal system is comparable to an ever-changing, three ring circus - there are executive orders and administrative rules, statutory provisions enacted by our legislative bodies, and interpretations and decisions by our judicial system. I enjoy the challenge of trying to maximize results for each client and strive to pay attention to each of these areas to help each client best leverage his or her assets. I truly enjoy solving problems, especially when there are creative solutions.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

Over the years, I've learned that each client is very different with diverse goals that require respect, understanding and advocacy. Each client is important. In addition, I am now in my second decade of practice and "real" experiences make me a better lawyer and a better person. My engineering background, US Navy experience and experience as a licensed general contractor have helped me to appreciate the value of hard work and the value of not only doing the right thing, but doing the thing right. I try to surround myself with other talented attorneys and agents, some are AMA Board certified physicians, some have Ph.D.'s in biotech, and some are university and college professors.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

Technology, science, engineering and medicine are our future.

What do you like best about your career?

Thus far, the most rewarding aspect has been mentoring as well as seeing a product that I've worked on go main-stream. I also am very proud of my pro bono practice with Native Americans as well as working with various State Bars to get more women, minority, and veteran law firms certified.

Tell us about your law firm:

My paralegal, Kristi, works hard to organize our client's files, stay on top of our docket and reporting, and answers her email the same day (even if the wee hours of the morning). My patent agents are all wonderful, have Ph.D.'s and are brilliant. My legal colleagues humble me. And, I am blessed to have a wonderful mentoring law firm that is in its third decade of practice. We are always learning and always trying to improve.

What are your strengths and style?

We Care. We have Integrity. We Perform. We Deliver.

Personal Interests:

My three sons are the center of my universe and shine brighter than Earth's sun. My husband, who is a caring, gentle geriatric and palliative care physician also rocks my world. In addition, I enjoy sailing and racquetball. I am a U.S.A. Swimming Stroke & Turn Official, and a cheerleading coach for ages 8-10.
