My practice focuses on all aspects of Elder Law and Estate Planning, which includes the preparation of Wills, Trusts, Powers of Attorney, Healthcare Directives, and Medi-Cal Planning. I represent clients in court for Probate and Trust Administration and Conservatorships.
On February 1, 2003 I opened my own law practice in Jackson, California. On April 1, 2008 I relocated my practice to a larger office in Jackson, California. I have two paralegals on my staff to assist me in meeting my clients' needs.
Prior to establishing my own law practice I worked for law firms in the San Diego area, specializing in Corporate Real Estate and Employment Law.
I have worked on a pro bono basis for the Amador County Senior Center located in Jackson, California. I have also, on occasion, accepted a pro bono case when I felt the situation was extraordinary and merited such assistance. I regularly present free seminars in the local community for a variety of organizations on the topic of Estate Planning and Elder Law Issues.
I believe that clients benefit from educating themselves on legal issues, and I encourage this approach. An informed client has greater involvement in their case. I believe that clients who educated themselves in legal issues are better prepared to fully understand the risks and benefits of electing various courses of action in the handling of their case.
It is my preference to provide clients with documents prepared by my office. However, I will review documents prepared by clients when appropriate.
While I believe that all clients benefit from being involved and educated about their legal issues, I have found some aspects of estate planning and estate administration to be too complex to effectively coach a client without taking on the full responsibility of representation.
While attending college at the University of California, San Diego, I took a number of law classes and really enjoyed them which piqued my interest in law and in becoming a lawyer. I also worked part-time at law firms in the San Diego area.
Prior to attending law school I worked in the legal office environment as a paralegal and a law clerk. This broadened my awareness of what clients expect and need from their lawyer. I believe this experience made me a more responsive and attentive lawyer.
I enjoy assisting individuals and families with getting their affairs in order through estate planning. I am committed to guiding them through complex legal issues when they arise. All clients, no matter what their marital background or economic status, should have an estate plan. I have found that people avoid estate planning for several reasons: (1) reluctance to face death; (2) procrastination; (3) they believe they have too little property; and (4) the expense of drafting the documents. I enjoy helping people overcome these fears. I teach my clients that the greatest gift they can leave their loved ones is an organized estate.
What I enjoy most is educating people about the need for estate planning so they can minimize the potential for problems down the road. Approximately seven out of ten people die without a Will. This forces their heirs to face more cumbersome court proceedings and added legal fees. I also take pleasure in helping people bring their legal issues to resolution and providing them with peace of mind and closure.
I am a solo practitioner so all my clients deal directly with me on legal issues. I also have a talented support team ? a Paralegal and an Office Manager/Paralegal ? who are attentive to all of my clients? immediate needs.
I communicate well with my clients and listen to their needs. Many of my clients have told me that I am very approachable and that they appreciate me helping them have a better understanding of their complex legal issues.
When not engaged in a family activity with my husband, three children and two dogs, I enjoy winter sports, especially skiing and ice skating. I also like to collect photographs and enjoy scrapbooking.
