Bar Number: 6208676
Northern District of Illinois, the Eastern and Western Districts of Wisconsin, and the U.S. Court of Appeals 7th Circuit.
Illinois State Bar and Wisconsin State Bar.
I fulfill my continuing legal education requirements by attending bar-certified classes on ethics, probate and family law topics.
I have litigated probate cases where the administrator's actions on behalf of the estate have been called into question by an heir. These cases often involve the sale or transfer of real property prior to the decedent's death. Substantial assets and often several heirs are involved who may reside throughout the country. I have settled many probate cases without litigation by gaining the confidence and cooperation of all parties involved.
My clients in divorce cases are typically concerned about receiving child support and their fair share of the marital assets. I am guided by my clients' concerns and work toward accomplishing their goals. A divorce case once filed may be scheduled for a hearing as soon as one month or as long as two years.

I started my practice in May of 1992 as a solo practitioner accepting civil cases as well as criminal felony and misdemeanor cases. I also represented parents or their children in juvenile court. In the early years, I defended clients accused of murder, rape, retail theft, battery, drug offenses or the abuse and neglect of children. In many instances, my clients were found not guilty or not liable of these offenses by the court. In other cases, I successfully negotiated pleas to resolve the case. I also wrote criminal appeals defending clients in federal and state court.
Now, I accept only civil cases: decedent's estates, family law and real estate transactions, but I also serve as an arbitrator for Cook County, Illinois hearing personal injury cases as member of a three person panel.
I have had a variety of employment experiences prior to becoming an attorney. I taught undergraduate students at the University of Illinois - Chicago, audited state vendors for Medicare/Medicaid fraud, and marketed capital equipment for a Fortune 100 copier company in Illinois.
After graduating from law school, I returned to Chicago and worked at the United States Attorney's Office as the LECC Coordinator developing policies to reduce drug abuse and promote drug prevention programs. Following my work with this office, I entered private practice.
During my practice, I have worked Pro Bono with clients referred by the Chicago Volunteer Legal Services. On behalf of my clients, I have expunged criminal records, eliminated erroneously applied fees charged and advised the elderly.
welcome clients who have questions and are seeking advice to clarify an issue.
I will complete a document review for my usual consultation fee. I may receive documents by fax, mail or email and promptly respond.
I will provide advice for clients who wish to represent themselves in divorce court, usually uncontested matters at my usual consultation fee rate of $ 100 per half hour.
I have always been interested in history, literature and the beauty of language. I wanted to become lawyer to become a member of the profession that had advanced the progress of civil rights. At an early age, I was impressed by the eloquence, persistence, and effectiveness of a federal prosecutor in Chicago, who brought corrupt judges and attorneys to justice. I learned that the law allowed for reasonable people to argue difficult issues to solve societal problems. I wanted to apart of that process.
My experiences have taught me to listen to my clients and understand their concerns. I am able to work through pressured situations and effectively manage a variety of cases.
I have had a history of working with family law and criminal justice issues since completing law school. When I first started practicing law, I handled criminal cases, but the law constantly changes. I chose to narrow my practice to civil law to ensure I could keep current in my three practice areas of probate, family law and real estate. These practices areas often overlap and one client may have need of legal services in each of these areas. If this is the case, I stand ready to assist them.
On an individual, case by case basis, I have helped people solve their legal problems. On a broader level, I have influenced the development of significant criminal justice policies in Illinois. On a personal level, I am able to be an attentive parent.
As a solo practitioner, I keep my clients informed not only of the progress of the case, but the legal options they have to manage their cases. They know what a ruling means and they know what their options are so they are able to make better decisions regarding the case.
I am professional, relaxed and personable with my clients, opposing counsel and the court. I am prepared for settlement negotiations and ready with counter offers or other options to reach the desired goal.
My interests include history, literature, movies, theater and photography.
