What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

Clients want results at a reasonable cost and have useful ideas on how to get those results. We are willing to help our clients learn more about the legal issues and process, and help them lower their attorney fees.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

We are willing to review documents prepared by clients, and help them understand how to improve those documents, if necessary, to achieve their legal goals with a clear explanation of what the law demands.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

We generally do not assist clients who want to represent themselves although we have engaged in pro bono legal services to represent clients who cannot afford legal services.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

I became a lawyer to represent people in their everyday lives and problems. Thirty years later, I am continually listening to and learning with my clients as they grow and respond to opportunities and challenges.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

My work experience with major U.S. corporations as Senior Corporate Counsel gave me an inside understanding of the demands of running a business. I learned the legal issues and choices connected with employment, taxation, insurance, credit markets, real estate, budget, litigation and environmental issues. I was not locked in to one legal specialty, and instead developed a wide-ranging interest in many areas.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

I began the practice of real estate law immediately after law school as the development of condominiums and office centers swept through the Chicago markets. Shortly after that I developed an understanding of franchise law, government relations, credit card and mortgage securities, and employment law as corporate demands arose.

What do you like best about your career?

The best part of the career is helping new clients and old clients who have new or ongoing legal issues.

Tell us about your law firm:

I am a solo practitioner with office in the technology corridor of Chicago and with the ability to meet with clients in offices worldwide in 70 countries.

What are your strengths and style?

I have strengths in negotiation and strategy, and my style involves listening to clients with intuition, thinking and judgment.

Personal Interests:

My personal interests involve extroverted activities such as sailing, sports and politics.
