Example Cases

In one DUI case I handled, my client had three prior DUIs in Washington State. One DUI was dismissed, one was reduced, and one she pled guilty to. My client was sentenced to only one day in jail.

In another DUI case my client had a .18 BAC, but was still able to keep her license and not do any jail time.

In an auto injury case my client was rear-ended on I-5 and suffered severe soft-tissue damage. The insurance company initially offered $1,000 to settle the case. After several months, we were able to achieve a settlement of $10,000.

Firm Focus and History

My firm focuses on DUI defense and auto accident related personal injury claims. We also handle some other criminal defense matters, but try to focus mainly on DUI defense and injury accident matters.

My firm was established in 2007. I am a former prosecutor who is now in solo practice.

Previous Employment Summary

As a Snohomish County Deputy Prosecutor I handled a heavy work load, was in court daily, and tried many cases.

As a clerk for Justice James M. Johnson of the Washington Supreme Court, I prepared memoranda on issues of law for the judge.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I believe that it is important to fully understand the legal options that one has. A good attorney will help show the different legal angles available.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

By taking on a relatively small caseload, I am able to dedicate substantial time to each of my client's cases. As such, I am more than willing to review documents, prepare clients for testimony and/or trial, and make sure that there are no surprises we aren't prepared for.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I don't coach clients who want to represent themselves. I strongly recommend proceeding through all legal actions with the advice of counsel.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

I was brought up to value service and helping others. Pursuing a legal career is a natural extension of this. As a prosecutor, I enjoyed prosecuting domestic violence cases and helping victims. As a private attorney, I get great satisfaction from helping my clients get the best possible results out of difficult situations.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

I have had the opportunity to work for a Supreme Court Justice, so I understand the legal principals of my practice and keep up to date with new case laws. I have had the opportunity to be a prosecutor and go to trial regularly, so I enjoy being in court and fighting for my clients. At the heart of every case are a person and his or her family who are greatly affected by an incident. I strive to achieve the best results possible to help them.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

I understand that DUIs and auto accidents happen to people from all walks of life. I enjoy helping them through a difficult time, and helping them get back on their feet.
I also truly enjoy being in court, and criminal defense law allows me the opportunity to do that daily.

What do you like best about your career?

I like to help people, go to court, and win trials - I think I have the best job in the world because I get to do those things regularly.

Tell us about your law firm:

I am a solo practitioner, so all of my clients deal directly with me. I also work with an assistant, Tricia.

What are your strengths and style?

I know a lot about my areas of law and the cases I am working on. I am aggressive with prosecutors and insurance companies, but am still able to successfully negotiate cases and good resolutions.

Personal Interests:

I enjoy skiing, hiking, fishing, reading, and maintaining the house and yard.
