Example Cases

Once, a widower came in to my office. He and his wife had created a trust many years before but had never funded it. I assisted their family in probating assets solely in the deceased wife's name, and in properly funding the trust to avoid the same thing happening in the event of the husband's death.

Another case I handled involved a husband and wife who wanted to create a simple will. After talking to them I found that a will would cause two problems: A) their estate would go through probate because it was over $100k, and B) their adult child, who was severely handicapped, would have been disqualified from all of her own benefits by virtue of receiving an inheritance. I was able to set up an ongoing special needs trust which allowed the daughter to receive the inheritance without losing benefits, and avoiding probate.

Previous Employment Summary

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I encourage clients to educate themselves on legal issues.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I am not willing to review client-prepared documents. There is too much liability on the attorney in this kind of situation, so I prefer not to get involved.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I am willing to give people guidance on helping themselves in appropriate circumstances.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

When I was a teenager, I worked in a law firm. Later, I became a paralegal and must have loved the experience because I headed to law school. The rest is history. I love what I do.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

Working in the legal field in various positions has helped me to become a better lawyer. I understand the value of customer service. Having prepared and administered hundreds of estates, I have real life experience dealing with a wide variety of family and asset situations.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

I enjoy helping individuals and families gain peace of mind by getting their affairs in order. I also enjoy assisting survivors in settling estates as easily as possible.

What do you like best about your career?

I like working with people, helping families avoid problems, looking down the road, and minimizing future problems.

Tell us about your law firm:

I am a solo practitioner, so all of my clients deal directly with me. I have a wonderful assistant who is attentive to all of my clients' immediate needs.

What are your strengths and style?

I give personal attention to my clients. I am willing to answer all client questions and make referrals when necessary. I draft all documents personally and explain every document as well.

Personal Interests:

I am raising two young children. I enjoy spending time with my family, jogging, and playing racquetball. I am also a movie lover.
