What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

There is a great deal of dangerously inaccurate information about bankruptcy on the internet. I love to see clients inform themselves at University and Government sites, such as caeb.uscourts.gov or www.abiworld.org.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

We are not a paralegal service, but instead, we are a full-service law firm. We prepare documents for our clients and will not review documents for non-clients or for pro per litigants.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

Our insurance company will not permit this for good reason.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

This is one of the few professions where people can do well for themselves and their family while also helping.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

My mission in Brazil, followed by nine years of waiting tables, pumping gas, driving taxi cabs and mowing other people's lawns allows me to understand and empathize with other people who are struggling to make ends meet.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

People come to me with their wages garnished, their bank accounts levied and their phones ringing all night; I can fix it and make it all go away in as little as 48 hours. It feels good to do so.

What do you like best about your career?

When clients come in to see me, they are very stressed out. Creditors are calling them night and day. Often, their wages are being garnished and their bank accounts are levied. I can fix all of that very quickly. When I see the same clients at court a few weeks later, they generally have a smile on their faces and a bounce in their step. We can provide real relief to people very quickly, and that always feels very good.

Tell us about your law firm:

We have two attorneys in our office, Ann Marie Friend and I. We are supported by twelve certified paralegals and other staff members. We do not send clients home with forms, but instead, we help clients through the entire process with as little work and stress to them as possible.

What are your strengths and style?

1. When you come in, you will meet with an attorney, not an assistant.
2. We do not send you home with a packet of papers to fill out.
3. We do nothing but bankruptcy work here. We have successfully filed over 6,500 consumer cases and offer clients service which is second to none.

Personal Interests:

I enjoy riding horses, watching movies and tinkering with cars.

Understanding Fees

Nolo's Licensing Check

Attorneys have passed a licensing check. Nolo has confirmed that every member attorney has a valid license and is in good standing with the applicable bar associations upon joining the directory.

Directory lawyers are required to notify Nolo immediately if they become the subject of any disciplinary action by any bar association.
