Firm Focus and History

Our focus is to advise and assist our clients in their various legal problems. We help them recover and be compensated for their losses. Further, we provide legal assistance for clients going through separation and breaking up of their marriages, including child custody, child support, spousal support, and division of family assets and liabilities. We also assist clients facing financial difficulties by representing them in Chapter 7 and 13 bankruptcy matters.

Probate and estate planning counseling and representation is another area of focus for us.

Our firm was established in 1977. For approximately 20 years we were located in Diamond Bar California. After acquiring a commercial building, we are now located across from the Pomona Superior Court complex in Pomona California.

Previous Employment Summary

I have been an attorney for 31+ years and focus on civil litigation, including business and personal injury litigation. I have prosecuted and defended a variety of cases over the years. I have represented clients in family law and probate matters, as well as drafted will, trusts, and prepared estate plans. I have also represented clients in bankruptcy filings and litigation. I have an extensive business and accounting background, and I've represented clients before the Internal Revenue Service and other administrative agencies.

Activities and Awards

I was a judge pro tem for approximately eight years for the Los Angeles County Superior Court.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I believe it is a good idea for clients to educate themselves and I am typically able to augment their education and explain legal terms and concepts that they did not understand.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I have reviewed documents prepared by clients before, and have had to rework and revise documents. Sometimes, extensive revisions are required and other times simple revisions are needed.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I have extensive experience regarding California's small claims courts. I have helped prepare many of my clients to prosecute or defend themselves in small claims court matters.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

I like helping people and assisting them in solving their problems. Being a lawyer is a lifelong learning experience and a lifelong education. I enjoy the variety of the work that I perform and the challenge of constantly learning new things about the law.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

Believing in yourself and being optimistic about people are two very important outlooks I have. Some lawyers look at the practice of law as a minefield. I look at the practice of law as an opportunity field where I can help people and at the same time earn a reasonable living. This attitude has been a great strength to draw from.

Having a strong work ethic is important too. Being honest and straightforward with people is very important. I avoid talking down to clients, and I focus on helping them get out of serious life problems, including financial distress and serious injuries. These personality traits have truly helped me to become the best lawyer I can be for my clients.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

I tend to like variety when I practice law, which is why I practice in several areas. Also, practicing in several areas of law is very helpful in terms of skill building and gives me an advantage over other lawyers that only have specific knowledge of limited areas of law.

What do you like best about your career?

I enjoy being self-employed and I recommend it to many people and encourage them to try it in different business fields, including accounting law finance, etc.

Tell us about your law firm:

My staff consists of three attorneys and six support staff members. My administrative legal secretary has been with me for approximately 20 years. Most of my staff members are long-term employees and we enjoy working together.

My oldest son is also an attorney who works with me. My youngest son is a paralegal who focuses on bankruptcy law. He owns and operates his own small business.

What are your strengths and style?

I tend to work well with other attorneys to find solutions for clients' legal problems. I have a distaste for attorneys who like to run up the bill and waste clients' resources. I see this happen quite often in family law matters where some attorneys are representing emotional clients who want revenge and end up paying a heavier price at the same time.

I understand that love and hate sometimes can be next-door neighbors. I have informed many clients that I'm not interested in playing revenge games. I am interested in maximizing their recovery, depending upon the facts, and getting them through the agony involved with the dissolution of marriage.

Personal Interests:

Besides spending as much time as I can with my wife of 42 years, I enjoy walking my three dogs for least an hour a day, and taking care of their needs. Also I've been a golfer for approximately 30 years. I avoid riding in golf carts, which typically means that I would get very little or no exercise and would rush through the game. I find that walking to be very enjoyable. I also like to play chess and I enjoy watching baseball and basketball.
