Bankruptcy
I assist clients with financial problems. A large majority of my cases involve foreclosure or pending repossession. I also handle consumer law issues regarding the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act and Fair Credit Reporting, along with mortgage servicing issues.

United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Alabama; United States District Court for the Southern District of Alabama; United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama.
Alabama State Bar; Birmingham Bar Association; Birmingham Bar Consumer Bankruptcy Section; National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys.
I attend continuing legal education seminars on the topics of consumer bankruptcy and consumer protection/litigation.
I handle Chapter 13 cases involving real property that is subject to foreclosure. Upon filing of the case, we immediately notify the mortgage company of the pending bankruptcy and stop the foreclosure sale. The mortgage arrearage, along with the client's other debts, are placed into the Chapter 13 case and a plan is developed to assist the client in repayment of these amounts over a 3 to 5 year period.

I began my practice in 1996, after passing the Alabama Bar examination. I immediately began to focus my career on serving the needs of clients in financial distress. I get great satisfaction when I help someone regain control of their finances and save their home/property from foreclosure or repossession.
My firm is focused on assisting the consumer client with financial problems. I handle consumer and business bankruptcy cases, both Chapter 7 and Chapter 13. My goal is to put my clients back in control of their financial situation.

Ever since I graduated from law school, I have done nothing besides working as an attorney. I have the benefit of 12 years of legal experience.
I think it is important for a client to be educated on the legal issues in which they are involved; this helps me to explain the details of a case.
I do not mind reviewing documents prepared by clients, but prefer to prepare the documents myself if I am signing off on them. Bankruptcy is a very technical area of the law which is constantly changing. It is very important that anyone who prepares a bankruptcy petition be fully aware of the bankruptcy laws so as not to risk the loss of property and to preserve all rights.
I do not advise clients on issues such as these.
I get great satisfaction from helping people. I understand that not all people have the same circumstances. I do not look down on my clients who have financial problems. These clients are my practice; they are the focus of my business. I know that situations arise that are not always within a person's control. My job is to help these people, my clients, to regain control of their finances. I want my clients to leave my office with hope.
I have built my practice on my own. I know what it is like to work hard for something and I know the pain that can come when the fear of losing your hard-earned possessions arises. I look at my clients as hard-working people who are faced with difficult situations and I try to help them turn those situations around.
To me, bankruptcy is one area of the law where my clients can see instant results from my work. I like being able to do my job and see the results come to fruition.
What I like best is the people I work with every day - my clients.
My office is family-oriented. My staff is attentive to the needs of the clients. When a clients walk into my office, they are greeted by name. Not only do we know our clients' cases, but many times, we know their families. Our clients come back to us long after their financial problems are solved and that's a good feeling.
I can talk to my clients in a way they understand. I don't try to talk down to my clients. I explain issues so they do not seem complex, even though sometimes they may be.
I enjoy spending time with my family. I like the outdoors and love to travel.
