What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

Divorce and Family Law are complicated areas of the law in Missouri. Military service members need the assistance of a qualified attorney familiar with the military to maximize their results and minimize their stress. Clients should always be aware of the legal issues in their cases. I attempt to give clients enough information in order for them to make informed decisions about their cases. My partner and I know that clients know the facts of their case better than we do. Often a client will have an intense appreciation of the problems they face with all of the parties involved.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

In Missouri, clients should not attempt to prepare documents unless they have a firm understanding of the consequences of their actions. I do not review documents prepared for third parties unless we have established a professional relationship by an attorney fee agreement. I do have our clients fill out information forms in order to assist in the preparation of the required forms for filing with the Court in each case.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I do not act as a coach for clients who want to represent themselves. A courtroom is not a place for a novice. This is serious business for important and vital issues facing a client.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

I decided to become a lawyer because of my desire to help people who are unfairly treated and being taken advantage of by others.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

As a young man, my experiences included becoming an Eagle Scout and teaching religious school. These experiences taught me leadership skills, how to work with people and to persevere to reach my goals. My college education, my military education as well as my military assignments have given me skills which have enabled me to understand the life experiences of others and at work with people of diverse backgrounds. My bar association leadership positions have given me access to the global understanding of the law and the client. As such, I have access to lawyers and firms across the country to benefit my clients.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

I chose to be involved with General Practice because I like the challenge of problem-solving in a variety of legal areas and to assist clients with real problems and achieve real solutions for complicated legal and emotional issues.

What do you like best about your career?

I like having clients appreciate my help and the betterment of their lives.
