Continuing Education

I attend seminars and participate in self-study programs to comply with my continuing education requirements and stay updated with changes in the law which gives me the tools to be a better advocate for my clients.

Example Cases

1. My client was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. He was charged with multiple grounds of removability including crimes of moral turpitude, aggravated felony, and multiple controlled substance convictions. I was contacted by my client's family to defend the client in immigration proceedings. I reviewed the client's case and determined that although client was born abroad, the client was a U.S. citizen through 8 U.S.C. Section 1832(a) something the client was unaware of. I appeared at the Master Hearing at the detention center and filed a motion to terminate proceedings and for client's immediate release from detention.

Result: U.S. government dismissed all charges and released client from custody. Client can now enjoy the benefits of being a U.S. citizen instead of being deported.

2. Naturalization application was granted after I filed a Mandamus Action in Federal Court. My client applied for naturalization about a year and a half ago and has not been called in for a naturalization interview. After repeated inquiries with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, client received the same response that the application is pending background check. After giving the government an opportunity to resolve the matter did not result in any action, my office filed a Mandamus action against the U.S. Government to compel adjudication of the naturalization application.

Result: Naturalization application was granted a month later and client has been scheduled for an oath taking ceremony.

Firm Focus and History

I established my law office in September 2007. My office is located in downtown Los Angeles, CA.

The focus of my law office is to provide clients in need of immigration representation with competent and vigorous representation while adhering to strict ethical standards. Each case is given the appropriate time, thought, and preparation. No case is too big or small. I feel that each client's situation is important to him or her and I treat every case with an equal level of importance.

My office subscribes to electronic legal research library to stay current with changes in the law and recent cases.

Previous Employment Summary

After graduating law school and passing the bar examination, I worked briefly for a law firm that specialized in immigration cases. I handled various cases and represented clients before the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, and Immigration Court.

Prior to becoming a lawyer, I was a banker that worked for both major and small financial institutions focusing on investigation and compliance.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

Many individuals think that immigration law is "just filling out forms." This is far from true. The practice of immigration involves several complicated aspects before the paperwork stage begins. A person who does not know the law might think they are qualified for a benefit when they are not. If they complete the application themselves, they are likely to end up in a position that is worse than they were at before. While an attorney cannot and should not guarantee the outcome of a case, an attorney is able to evaluate the case and reasonably anticipate issues before filing documents.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I do not review documents prepared by clients who wish to represent themselves. I believe if an attorney reviews the client's document, then the client might mistakenly believe the attorney is representing them or that the attorney endorses the representations in the documents.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

While individuals have the right to represent themselves, it is not something that I would recommend. I do not represent individuals who wish to represent themselves.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

Knowledge of the law gives the lawyer an opportunity to advocate and challenge laws that, though legal, can be wrong and unjust. I became a lawyer to be part of the force that fights against injustice, and to make a living doing what I enjoy.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

My clients are my greatest teachers. Each client's case has its own unique characteristics. Finding an answer or a solution for each case is an educational and fulfilling experience.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

Immigration law is challenging. It involves an active interaction between constitutional law, criminal law, business law and other laws, which I find interesting.

What do you like best about your career?

The best thing about my career is my knowing that I have done something positive to change a person's life.

Tell us about your law firm:

I am a solo practitioner.

What are your strengths and style?

My strength is based on my application of a methodical approach in seeking solutions to my clients' cases using competent legal research and analytical thinking.

I have a clear channel of communication with my clients and I keep them informed about developments in their cases whether it is a positive or negative development. I also send my clients copies of everything that I file on their behalf.

Personal Interests:

I enjoy spending time with my family and friends.
