I fulfill my continuing legal education requirements by attending regularly scheduled seminars pertaining to my various fields of practice.
A case that comes to mind is a colonel of the United States Armed Forces, established war hero and professor at a local university. He had done much for his country and made a definite impact on society in general. This man had an addiction to alcohol which he clearly could not conquer on his own. He was arrested various times as a result. He was facing a long prison term, which I knew would be devastating to him and his family. I knew it was essential that I convince the prosecutor, his supervisor and ultimately the judge that this man needed an in-depth, in-house drug program, which he successfully completed.

My firm was established in January of 1980 in Miramar, Florida. When finding that I needed more space for my growing practice, I opted to stay in the same area where I could continue to service the same families that had helped build my practice. With that in mind I moved my practice to my present Hollywood Boulevard location, which is a short distance from my original location.
Our objective is to provide personalized service and adjust our strategies to a client's specific needs. As an example, a scared father may want a stern voice when guiding his juvenile through the criminal process, whereas an elderly client, finding himself in trouble for the first time, may require a gentler approach.

Prior to my admission to the Florida Bar, I was employed at the Broward County Public Defender's Office, with a focus on juvenile cases, and Broward County Legal Aid Office, with a focus on family matters. This provided a strong base for the private practice that I later formed.
I always say, "A little knowledge can be very dangerous." However, a client that uses research to educate himself can be beneficial when working with his case.
I am always amenable to reviewing clients' documents such as contracts and real estate listing agreements.
I am dead set against it! You wouldn't pull your own tooth or remove your own gall bladder and the same applies to the law. An inexperienced defendant versus an experienced prosecutor spells disaster.
Upon graduating from college, I found myself working as a television news cameraman in New York City. I knew that while it was an extremely interesting and well-paying job that my future would be in the practice of law. I found that my father's dream for me became my dream.
Through my work at Broward County Legal Aid, and the Public Defender's Office, I found that I liked working for the underdog who might not otherwise have a voice in our system.
I gravitated towards criminal defense because the concept of keeping a wrongly accused client from prosecution and incarceration was more important to me than engaging in litigation that only compensates the attorney.
I would have to say that I derive a great sense of satisfaction in helping our young people. If I am lucky enough to get through to one seventeen year old headed in the wrong direction, and change his path, I've succeeded. I experienced a great sense of accomplishment when the parents of a juvenile criminal client called me years later just to tell me he had just graduated with honors.
My primary assistant has been with me since the day I opened my office over 28 years ago. Now, years later, I've had her children helping out in the office from time to time when needed. Not only has this given us a sense of family, but our clients have come to depend on the stability, and seem to appreciate the personalized service that we've been able to provide.
As my assistant always says - I tell it like it is! I feel that clients deserve the truth, and while I can be compassionate, I do not like to sugar coat the facts or the expected results. I specifically do not like to lead the client to believe in an unrealistic fee or outcome.
I enjoy horseback riding, swimming, fitness training and sporting events. I especially enjoy bringing along my friends' and assistants' children and grandchildren to the sporting events.

Yes
I do not have fixed prices or fees. I always tell clients to beware of attorneys that promise to handle a case for a "too good to be true" price. If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. I bill for the hours expended on a case and I focus on trying to do the best job possible for the least amount of money.
$300 per hour.
Yes, I definitely offer and encourage a free consultation. I find it is essential for the client and attorney to meet and mutually feel comfortable with the working relationship.
Each retainer fee is based on the particular case.
