Firm Focus and History

The Dow law firm started in 1980 and I have been practicing continuously since then.

Our firm's focus is bankruptcy.

Previous Employment Summary

I worked for the U.S. Senate from 1974 to 1978 as a legislative assistant to Bob Packwood and, later, a legislative assistant on the Senate Commerce Committee from 1978 to 1980.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

There is a reason it takes 20 years of schooling to be an attorney. Don't think you can do it by going online for an hour.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I am unwilling to use documents prepared by clients. The potential for errors are too great.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I am not willing to coach clients.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

I decided to become a lawyer because solving individual problems, one at a time, is very satisfying to me.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

Having 28 years of experience has been valuable in making me a better lawyer.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

I chose this area of practice because bankruptcy helps a lot of people lose the stress in their lives and stay married.

What do you like best about your career?

The best thing about my career is my clients. They are the greatest.

Tell us about your law firm:

My son, Ben, graduated with his J.D. from Wake Forest, an excellent top tier school. He does the best research in our area of the state.

What are your strengths and style?

One of my strengths is my ability to say "no," and to stay out of trouble.

Personal Interests:

I am interested in Christianity.

Understanding Fees

Nolo's Licensing Check

Attorneys have passed a licensing check. Nolo has confirmed that every member attorney has a valid license and is in good standing with the applicable bar associations upon joining the directory.

Directory lawyers are required to notify Nolo immediately if they become the subject of any disciplinary action by any bar association.
