Bankruptcy
I prefer to handle Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 clients. Clients who are struggling to make it financially and using the bankruptcy protection could get some breathing room to financially reorganize and possibly save their homes.

Bankruptcy: Client's husband suffered a horrendous automobile accident causing complete paralysis. Medical bills completely skyrocketed. We were able to stop foreclosure, prevent a negative credit rating by giving a deed in lieu of foreclosure. All medical bills discharged in Chapter 7. Client has a well deserved fresh start.
Personal Injury: Trucking Accident. Client received considerable damages. Case settled prior to trial for substantial sum.
Criminal: Man accused of defrauding elderly. Through trial evidence showed client was not in town at the time of the incident. Found not guilty on all charges.

Our firm is specifically designed to be of service to our clients. We strive to educate the client through information and continual communication about their case. We feel that through education, the client is empowered and made an integral part of the process. It is our goal to "de-victimize" the client and to bring about a fuller understanding of the legal process and what truly dedicated lawyers can achieve for the clients.
The Jimerson Law Firm was established when I left the Missouri Public Defenders System approximately January 1990. I worked primarily in the Capital Litigation of the Public Defenders Systems litigating death penalty cases around the State of Missouri. I decided that life and death came in other ways as well. Many people struggled each day just to survive, and to encounter the legal system without quality representation was unthinkable for me. My goal was not only to do justice when engaged, but to be there when the person came looking for justice to be served.
Prior to law school I worked for a half-way house called Magdala Foundation counseling and assisting those that needed a new beginning. The typical residents were parolees, federal inmates, mentally ill and the drug addicted.
Named Top Missouri Lawyer 2006 by Kansas City Magazine Super Lawyers Sections; American Registry of Outstanding Professionals 2002-2003; Volunteer Lawyer Service Award by Legal Services of Missouri; BV Rated Martindale-Hubbell; Active Board Member for Springboard to Learning/Young Audiences.
I indicated earlier that our belief is that education is a core value. Clients must know about the process. It doesn't matter whether it's self attained or infused by a lawyer. The key review is whether the information learned can be relied on.
I'm willing to look at anything the client brings to support their position. The problem is sometimes too much general knowledge may not help, and can be harmful if used wrongfully.
I try not to give advice unless I'm in the ring with my client. I also think that brings up a legal ethical concern as well. The undertaking of the clients' case should be considered even when you're giving advice or "coaching."
This is a long but exciting story! My brother needed a lawyer for a second offense, but my mother couldn't afford to hire one. I went to court with my brother. When his name was called I jumped up and went up to the bench with him. Before anyone could say anything, I blurted out, "We move to dismiss the case." The judge looked over his bench and smiled. He looked at the prosecutor with eyes that silently said "Don't destroy this moment." He looked back at my brother and said "Mr. Jimerson, you have a great attorney. Help him to become one as he goes along. Case is dismissed!" I decided that day that my voice and willingness to act was special.
Before attending law school, I worked in a half-way house counseling prisoners, parolees, and psychiatric clients. It taught me not to judge and try to see the good in everything, even if it's small. Also I worked with the Public Defender System in Missouri. I acquired superb trial skills and well as confirmation of my passion to serve.
I serve many areas, but in bankruptcy many of my current clients started calling me and virtually pleading me to take their case because of the foreclosure crisis they were facing. I decided to educate myself on the matter and try to give help where it was needed.
I like being a lawyer because everyday matters to someone. Even if it's a slow day, there's someone that I'm helping that day. Sure the day will pass, but someone, because of me, felt better or understood their situation better. There have been tremendous litigation successes for me, but the bottom line is the best thing is watching a client walk a little taller after leaving my office.
My office has one attorney, three paralegals and a practice manager. I couldn't do it without them. They keep my scheduling organized and my office running like a well oiled machine. All of them are friendly and courteous and willing to serve.
My strengths are my litigation skills and my ability to acquire the needed knowledge. I am no stranger to the process particularly given my unique history with people and the law. Though I can and will fight, I'm generally considered a mild, respectable person.
I enjoy writing books, coaching my son's baseball and basketball teams, traveling and softball.
