Firm Focus and History

The focus of my law firm is on bankruptcy and debt negotiation. I believe there are only two reasons for bankruptcy - mental stress and marital stress. One's mental state and family are more important than money.

I had as many as eight associates working with me in Salt Lake City and Saint George, Utah. When my children were young, I built a daycare next to my office so that my staff and I could be near them. This made for very loyal associates and staff.

Previous Employment Summary

I have been self employed since 1987.

Activities and Awards

I had a talk radio show on K-Talk radio from 1989 to 1998. People would call in and ask questions about bankruptcy.

I speak in rotaries, church meetings and schools about the do's and don'ts of financial spending. I also taught a paralegal class on bankruptcy at Mountain West College.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

If clients choose to educate themselves, then they should talk to an attorney to make sure that they are interpreting the law correctly.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

We are not willing to review documents prepared by clients. Every bankruptcy our firm is involved with must be prepared by our office.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I feel it would be malpractice to tell a client to file bankruptcy without legal representation.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

I became a bankruptcy lawyer in order to help people in financial difficulty. I feel it is rewarding to relieve people's stress.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

I did my undergraduate work at Hunter College in New York City, Kingston Polytechnic in Kingston upon Thames England and Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. I then received my law degree from Brigham Young University. I was raised in a Jewish home in Brooklyn. I served as a missionary for my church from 1976 to 1978. I taught high school English in Grace Idaho. Later I married and helped raise eight children. As a result of my experiences, I certainly know and understand family and financial problems.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

Having grown up in a tenement in Brooklyn, I can appreciate the problems of both the poor and the middle class. As a result I always give my clients my personal phone number so that they can reach me, day or night, when they choose to file bankruptcy.

What do you like best about your career?

The thing I like best about my career is the reward I get from helping people in difficult times.

Tell us about your law firm:

My clients meet directly with me to discuss their options. I have a wonderful paralegal that is attentive to all of my clients' immediate needs. My clients know there is someone they can always talk to who cares about their problems.

What are your strengths and style?

My strength and style is that I care about my clients, yet I am blunt and honest with them. I say what people need to know and not what they want to here. The majority of my clients come by referral from former clients. My clients always feel at ease with me.

Personal Interests:

My religious faith and family come first. My kids are all grown and so I can focus my time on my law practice.
