Bankruptcy
I welcome consultations with all possible clients in order to discuss their particular financial difficulties and to explore bankruptcy as a possible solution during a trying time. Bankruptcy can often times provide relief to a situation that feels unmanageable and beyond one's control.

I attend continuing education classes throughout the year in order to stay current with all legal developments. Most recently, I attended the Bankruptcy Bench Bar Conference which highlighted a multitude of issues at the forefront of the practice, including a discourse regarding role of bankruptcy in the sub prime mortgage market and foreclosure crisis.

There are many different reasons for the filing of a bankruptcy as it can provide different types of relief for different types of circumstances. For instance, client's wages can be garnished or a lien placed upon their bank account in order to satisfy a creditor's judgment. The filing of the bankruptcy will stop a wage garnishment as well as prevent a creditor from placing a lien on any accounts in the debtor's name. A bankruptcy filing will also stop a foreclosure proceeding by allowing the debtor to repay the mortgage company all monies owed to them over a period of time. As long as a bankruptcy petition is filed prior to the sheriff sale date, a home can be saved from foreclosure. Sometimes, all debtors require is the chance to recover from a financially difficult period of time.

Through my work history, I have been exposed to a wide variety of legal fields. Preceding my graduation from law school, I served as law clerk to the Honorable Joseph Augello, President Judge, for the Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas, where I was able to actively participate in the civil litigation process. Post-graduation, I worked as an associate in a firm in Scranton, PA, where I handled cases ranging from complex commercial litigation to residential real estate closings, with significant participation in day-to-day case management. Additionally, I completed one year as a Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Mary K. White, Superior Court Judge, Family Division, Woodbury, New Jersey, prior to engaging in the private practice of Family Law. After recognizing and mastering the interplay of finances throughout various stages of one's life, I began representing individual debtors in bankruptcy case filings ranging from simple to complex in nature.
I feel that clients should have a comprehensive understanding of what legal rights and remedies are available to them. There exist a wide variety of sources by which clients can obtain a basic knowledge and understanding of the concept of bankruptcy. However, I caution that such information can be outdated, incomplete, confusing, or not applicable to the situation at hand. Through a one on one consultation, I can gain a complete understanding of a client's current financial situation, and expand upon, supplement, or clarify their already existing knowledge base so that I can work with the client to seize upon a legal solution.
I am always willing to review any documents prepared by my clients, especially since the client is in the best position to provide me the necessary information to move forward.
Since there are many intricacies associated with the practice of law, coupled with the fact that the bankruptcy laws have changed drastically over the past few years, I would caution against pro se filings. Filing a bankruptcy petition without proper representation by an attorney of the relevant jurisdiction can expose a debtor to a complex and damaging situation if certain exigencies exist.
As far back as I can remember, I was addicted to the written word. Law school provided the most stimulating environment in which I could read, interpret, and analyze various pieces of legislation, legal passages, and historical precedents. Combined with my love for oral argument, I found the perfect forum in which I could exercise and build upon all of my passions. It is through this knowledge base that I can successfully represent and educate my clients about their individual rights, and actively fight for them to protect such rights.
As you can tell from my work history, I have been exposed to various facets of law and have represented clients of all status. I always empathize with my clients maintain a compassion for their situation. It is through this relationship that I will aggressively act to protect and defend my client's legal rights.
I absolutely love practicing bankruptcy law. It provides me with the opportunity to help those that need it most. In such a fickle and unstable economy, bankruptcy not only allows clients to recover from financial hardship and unexpected occurrences, but it allows clients the opportunity to erase the past and begin to rebuild their future. It is a wonderful feeling, both physically and emotionally, to escape from what feels like a helpless situation.
Giving debtors the fresh start they deserve and the opportunity for them to regain control over their future!
