Firm Focus and History

The focus of our firm is to provide consumer bankruptcy relief to individuals by way of chapter 7 or chapter 13 bankruptcy. We have offices in approximately 26 states. We offer the advantages of a larger firm infrastructure, but are able to provide our clients with individualized attention for their cases.

The firm was originally started in Chicago in 1997. I joined the firm in 2005 about six months after the Atlanta office was opened. The firm has continued to grow and has great diversity in terms of staff, backgrounds, and experience. We are one of the largest firms in the United States. We are currently striving to increase our presence in Georgia by providing quality representation to clients.

Previous Employment Summary

Prior to coming to work for Legal Helpers, I have had experience both as a law clerk for a trial court judge and as a litigation attorney. I have done creditor work previously for a construction supply companies and I've also done real estate closing work as well. This gives me a unique perspective on debtor work since I've worked on both sides.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I think that generally, a client that comes in better-informed about the bankruptcy process is going to have a better overall experience with our firm or with any attorney because it gives them the opportunity to understand what reasonable expectations are for their cases.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

This depends on what the documents are. In the case of business-related documents such as expense reports and profit and law statements, I am very willing to review those types of documents as they are generally the best sources for that type of information. For clients who have previously tried to file their own bankruptcy cases, I am willing to review them the documents, but generally find it better to start from scratch.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I would prefer to do that type of work in the context of a pro bono type of situation. I do not believe that the bankruptcy environment is one where an average individual can find success proceeding their own. Therefore, I do not feel it would be appropriate to coach someone to do so.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

I decided to be a lawyer because I wanted to have the ability to help make things better for people. You aren't going to change the world doing bankruptcy work, but you are able to change the worlds of individuals in a direct way.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

My overall work experience, having been on both the collections and debtor representation end gives me a unique perspective in representing clients within the bankruptcy environment.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

I chose this area because having seen people in bad financial situations in previous job experiences, the opportunity to help people better themselves had a strong appeal.

What do you like best about your career?

I like the fact that I get to help people out. When people come to see a bankruptcy attorney, they are especially dispirited and down, but I enjoy that I can give these people hope in helping them see that there is a way out of a bad situation.

Tell us about your law firm:

Here in the Atlanta office, we've developed a solid reputation within the bankruptcy community of providing strong, quality representation on behalf of our clients. We've done this by having capable, aggressive attorney representation backup up by a solid support staff.

What are your strengths and style?

My strength is the ability to quickly analyze a client's situation and come up with creative solutions that will best benefit my client. I tend to be someone who clients can feel comfortable around, but I am always honest and upfront with them so they know what they can realistically expect in the bankruptcy process.

Personal Interests:

I enjoy music, theater, movies, reading and playing video games on occasion.

Understanding Fees

Nolo's Licensing Check

Attorneys have passed a licensing check. Nolo has confirmed that every member attorney has a valid license and is in good standing with the applicable bar associations upon joining the directory.

Directory lawyers are required to notify Nolo immediately if they become the subject of any disciplinary action by any bar association.
