I attend courses in continuing legal education and I'm active in the bankruptcy section of the King County Bar Association.
I've been on both the creditor and debtor side of this area of law. I've litigated adversary proceedings in bankruptcy court representing credit card companies. I've also represented creditors in collection suits in Illinois and Washington. I've handled countless chapter 7 and chapter 13 bankruptcy cases.

Our firm was established in 1997. We restrict our practice to representing consumer debtors and filing chapter 7 or chapter 13 bankruptcy cases or prosecuting violations of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
Our firm focuses on consumer bankruptcy an consumer debt issues.
I worked at the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois as Intake Director from 1994-1998. After that I worked at Erik A. Martin and Associates concentrating in chapter 13 bankruptcies from 1999-2000. From 2001-2003 I was at Legal Helpers in Chicago concentrating on chapter 7 and chapter 13 bankruptcy cases. From 2003-2005 I was Weinstein and Reilly in Seattle concentrating on creditor's rights as well as bankruptcy and state court. From 2006-2007 I worked at the law firm of Larry Lofgren focusing on consumer bankruptcy and consumer debt issues. Presently, I'm managing the Seattle office of Legal Helpers.
I lived in Madrid, Spain for a year teaching English. I also take pro bono cases for the King County Bar Association.
I think it's important that people have a basic understanding of the law, but it's highly technical. If any case is difficult at all, it is worth hiring an attorney and it would be very risky to represent yourself. However, I do encourage people to educate themselves about the law in a general way.
I'd prefer to handle the case from beginning to end. I would feel better interview the client and starting from scratch rather than reviewing a document that they prepared.
I won't coach clients in self-representation, but I do coach new attorneys in the King County Bar association involved in pro bono cases when bankruptcy issues come up.
I have always thought of myself as analytical and interested in gaining knowledge. I enjoy analyzing social policy and enjoy a good argument. I've always been very committed to helping people. I love reading and writing, and this profession is heavily dependent on both.
My work as an intake director of the ACLU has given me an awareness of a broad spectrum of issues that challenge almost every group in society. My travels in Latin America and Spain have made me fluent in Spanish. My work in representing large numbers of bankruptcy clients on both the creditor and debtor side has given me very deep and broad knowledge of bankruptcy issues.
After concentrating in public interest, I wanted to move to a more traditional law firm and bankruptcy attracted me because I realized that I could help people in serious situations quickly and effectively.
I like the certainty and finality of the bankruptcy process and the ability to help people quickly and decisively.
We're a small, congenial office with young, committed, energetic attorneys all with backgrounds helping individuals through tough times.
I am understanding and sympathetic. I also communicate well with many types of people. I have an amiable personality, but I am aggressive when I see that my clients' interests are at stake and compromise is not a solution.
I enjoy reading, languages, travel, swimming, skiing, music, art, literature, politics, current events, and taking care of my six-year-old son.
