Firm Focus and History

I entered solo practice in 2006. My firm works with clients who have family law issues.

Previous Employment Summary

Prior to the practice of law I worked for a state sponsored alternative dispute resolution center where I supervised and trained mediators and phone conciliators. I also provided mediation and group facilitation services. While my children were school aged, I worked in a small independent bookstore. Prior to having children, I was a demographer for the Municipality of Anchorage.

Activities and Awards

I earned awards in law school for excellence in family law and federal Indian law; I am co-chair of the local bar association's collaborative law section and am chair of the mentoring committee of King County Collaborative Law. I provide pro-bono mediation services through the King County Dispute Resolution Center.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I consider it my obligation to be sure that my clients understand the legal underpinnings upon which their case issues are based. My goal for my clients is that they have the information necessary to make educated decisions and that agreements made will be durable going forward.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I encourage clients to be proactive and enjoy working with clients who have prepared their own documents.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I have done that frequently and if that's the representation the client wants, I am perfectly willing to accommodate.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

After many years working in the field of alternative dispute resolution, I wanted to have a more complete understanding of the dispute resolution continuum and decided that law school would begin to provide me with that understanding.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

I have a decade of experience helping people resolve differences with respect. I am in my 50's and have life experience that assists me in understanding and supporting client's as they transition from the pain of the past into a better future. I have raised two children myself and been married for over 30 years.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

Family law affords me the unique opportunity to help clients deal with a difficult situation in a manner that encourages the respectful resolution of differences.

What do you like best about your career?

Seeing my clients successfully navigate divorce and come out the other side with a belief that the future will be a better place.

Tell us about your law firm:

I am a solo practitioner who answers her own phone and am available to my clients. I am sensitive to my clients' general desire to be mindful of costs. I am also respectful of their desire to be informed and educated.

What are your strengths and style?

1. My strengths are my people skills as well as my ability to analyze a case. 2. I have presence and when I speak people generally pay attention.

Personal Interests:

I enjoy gardening, kayaking, reading, quilting, and fishing.
