What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

Clients need to educate themselves about legal issues so they can manage their businesses and make good decisions in working with their lawyers. I provide clients with complimentary seminars to help them address legal issues.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

Clients can save themselves both money and time by preparing draft letters and agreements for a lawyer's review.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I regularly assist clients with small claims court matters. On Federal or Superior Court cases, I strongly recommend that lawyers represent clients.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

I want to help people solve difficult problems in a realistic, cost-effective and common sense manner. Most lawsuits are high risk investments, which require careful management of legal resources with the goal of early resolution.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

Participating in hundreds of mediations has helped me understand the anatomy of a dispute, and how to deal with psychological and cultural issues that have little to do with legal principles, but often lie at the heart of the misunderstanding.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

Everything about construction and real estate fascinates me.

What do you like best about your career?

I like to make a positive difference in people's lives. I enjoy the intellectual challenge, but most of all, I like the feeling of achieving a good result for a client.

Tell us about your law firm:

I have a very experienced staff of lawyers and paralegals. Brian Ripley has practiced law for over 23 years. Douglas Kroll has over 18 years of legal experience.

What are your strengths and style?

Preparation is the heart and soul of any good lawyer. I am always prepared. I develop innovative ways to resolve disputes. I treat my client's pocketbook like it is my own.

I speak plainly, honestly, and directly about legal issues. I give clients options about how they want to approach their case. I look for fair and reasonable outcomes. I write contracts that are balanced. I help clients avoid legal problems with proactive advice and good contract documents.

Personal Interests:

I enjoy sailing, jazz guitar, skiing, golf, scuba diving, and wine tasting.
