Example Cases

I've helped hundreds of people file for bankruptcy. Recently, I met with a single mother who had over $60,000 in medical debt; I helped erase her debt and stopped a lawsuit and wage garnishment. I helped a couple keep their home, two cars, and a small family business. I also helped completely wipe away a mountain of credit card debt that was burying a young man. There are many reasons people find themselves in such financial hardship, often due to uncontrollable events like divorce, accidents, job loss, or rise in mortgage payments.

Activities and Awards

I am a member the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

There are so many rumors and stigmas about the law, especially in the field of Bankruptcy. That's why I encourage everyone to ask questions as well as do independent research before making any legal decision. It's my ethical duty to keep my clients' best interests in mind and oftentimes I suggest they visit my website or pick up a Nolo book in order to better educate themselves on the topic of bankruptcy.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I am happy to review documents written by all my clients.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I am able to substitute for people who filed their own case and find themselves in over their heads. With the passage of the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005, people who once thought is was easy to file their own bankruptcy are now overwhelmed by the new code and are seeking the representation of an experienced attorney.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

I originally wanted to be a pilot, but after making an emergency landing, I decided to make a career change. With my feet planted firmly on the ground, I discovered I was better suited for the courtroom.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

All my legal experience is in Bankruptcy, it's all I do. I've filed hundreds of cases and have helped people all over the Bay Area. What makes me a better lawyer? Being a good listener.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

I can truly say I love my work. I meet people each day and I help change their lives for the better in a very short period of time. Not many other lawyers can say that. I fight for my clients and I think that they can see that. The referrals of my clients' family and friends speak volumes, and let me know I'm in the right profession, helping the right people.

What do you like best about your career?

I enjoy stopping foreclosures, wage garnishments, and lawsuits. I like telling a client that I filed their case and their home or business is safe, and they get to keep their cars, belongings, and future earnings. But my favorite part is accompanying them to their bankruptcy hearing; after the hearing is finished they are very grateful they hired an attorney.

Tell us about your law firm:

I am a solo practitioner, so I handle all bankruptcy cases from start to finish and make my own court appearances. My wife Mari, my paralegal, also has extensive experience in the field of bankruptcy and helps me run a smooth office. I also have her to thank for our website: www.bayareabk.com

As the saying goes, behind every good man is a great woman. I am certainly no exception.

What are your strengths and style?

When people come into my office they are overwhelmed by debt, unsure of their options, and scared of losing their homes, businesses, personal belongings, or wages. I approach each client with an open mind, I never judge or cast blame. I talk with my clients in plain English and treat them with respect. The way I see it, all attorneys have a law degree, but I believe it takes a more than that to be a good lawyer.

Personal Interests:

Eating all kinds of good food, my favorites are Soul Food, Peruvian, Thai, and Italian. I like watching sports on TV, and let me not forget, spending time with my beautiful wife.

Understanding Fees

Nolo's Licensing Check

Attorneys have passed a licensing check. Nolo has confirmed that every member attorney has a valid license and is in good standing with the applicable bar associations upon joining the directory.

Directory lawyers are required to notify Nolo immediately if they become the subject of any disciplinary action by any bar association.
